If convicts get two females. But I like the calvus myself. And pick your plants carefully because most cichlids tend to nip at them or dig them up. |

Either a few hardy fish or, if you opt for a fishless cycle, household nondetergent, nonscented ammonia that you add yourself. The bacteria feed on the ammonia turning it into nitrIte. Another type of bacteria feed on the nitrIte and turn it into nitrAte. Once your ammonia and nitrIte have spiked and gone to zero the tank is cycled. There is an article in Getting Started that covers cycling pretty well. Have fun, Mike |

I mean has there been an ammonia source added to fuel the nitrogen cycle? Has the ammonia turned to nitrite and then to nitrates? (nitrogen cycle) Just askin, you did say the tank was new. Also, the stress cote will remove chlorine from the water, and helps fish with their protective slime coat. Something like cycle, bio spira or stress zyme helps introduce the bacteria needed to help speed the cycling process. the cycle may take a few weeks to complete once ammonia has been added. Took over two weeks for my 29 gallon tank. |
