Wow!

I don't think you can fit everything you want in there!know the feeling though. I 'd get more neons, they would fill up the schooling requirement.

I "think" a betta would maybe attack a gourami?? I am not sure about one thing in your current stocking - Can you keep a male and female betta together? Eventually won't he kill her??

hmmm will have a hunt around and come back later with some better ideas...mind you not sure if you could fit anything else in. stocking is tricky!

um. i didn't read all the post, but what i saw that i didn't like, was the 2 betta part. really bettas should only be together for breeding, and yes it can be done, but it is risky.

You can add more Neons & maybe some Corydoras, but keep an eye on those Betta's.

The bettas are fine together, sometimes the male flares at the female, but most of the time they are allright with eacother.
The male has built a bubble nest and I think it might have eggs in it.
I have read up on these things lots and mostly they say 'have a backup plan, they might not like eachother'

'introduce the male about 2 weeks before the female and get him to get to know the tank so he feels secure in it'

'If the male dosent like the female he will attack her immedietly'

I did all these things and when i first introduced the female they swam together, which was a good sign, he doesent flare at her much only when she tries to follow him around, I will make a website today to show all of you pictures.

Did you read up to the part where "male will drive female away from nest after breeding"? And then "remove female after breeding as the male may kill her"?

it actually said 'male may drive female away after breeding.' breeding may have not happened in my community tank, I just thought it might because the male is spending a lot more time at his bubble nest.

Anyway the fact that I have a successful pair of bettas in the tank is not the point, the point is what i asked. I did lots of research before I put them together. The male occasionly flares at the female, but I think that is acceptable. Ive had them together for about a week now and nothing has happened.

Cherry barbs don't school as such but they do swim round the middle of the tank, silver tipped tetras are nice, White cloud mountain minnows might be ok? in tank thar size thet don't school in the traditional sense, they only really school when afraid and hopefully our fish aren't!

I don't think Kribs would fit? cories should be kept in groups of 6 at least not sure what that would do to your water quality.

I am glad you did your research re the bettas, at least you know what to do if he gets nasty....which he might do unpredictable little $%^&£.. well in my experience!

I don't know any thing about shrimps... i think there is another board that people use for that - look on the main page??

Hi,
what can I put in my 26gal tank?
It already has 1 male betta, 1 female betta, 5 neon tetras, 3 yamato shrimps and 3 polka dot loaches.
What do you think I should put in it?
I really like moonlight gouramis and Pimelodella gracilis and nearly any type of cory.
so what type should I get?
My middle layer is almost empty so I need something else there, I wan't another small shoaling fish really (not black neons) but an't find any on google, what do you think? I also want Kribs i the tank- will I be able to fit all these in?
so Kribs, either pimelodella gracilis or a species of cory (i like the skunk cory) moonlight gouramis and a small schoaling fish for the middle layers, perhaps ghost shrimps too.
Its hard to choose!

I'd recommend against the Pimelodella gracilis. They get about 7 inches, which is a bit large for a 26. Similarly with kribs, they need a lot of room for a territory, and will probably harrass other fish in close quarters like that. Cories would be fine. The moonlight gourami gets to about 6 inches... pushing it... a dwarf gourami would be a better choice (might I suggest powder blue?), assuming your betta is not going to attack it (depends on the betta. Some seem to be fine with most other fish, one I had killed a blue ram). As for small schooling fish, other small tetras you might like are rummynoses or lemon tetras.

EDIT: And kribs are "middle layer" fish, and they also hang around the bottom. In my (60g) tank, they tend to cruise all over the place. They can be bullies (and they're big enough to beat up your other fish), so I would be concerned about your fish having enough room to hide.

ok, I read up on them all, I hate lying websites!! lol, ok i dont really like dwarf gouramis, but powder blues are ok, Anything bad about cherry barbs? I like them now too, pimelodella gracilis looks really good. (what i really need here i a bigger tank lol, anyone willing to give me one???)(ok, worth a try) Kribs are so friendly tho lol, like bears.
Ok no Kribs, no honey gourami, possibly a powder blue, maybe cherry barbs, yes cories. Any other suggestions? (small schoaling fish anyone?)

"Any other suggestions? (small schoaling fish anyone?)"

Your neon tetras are small schooling fish, but if you like you can add a school of lemon tetras or a shoal of Corydoras. I don't know of any Corydoras species that are happy to be kept alone or even in groups of three, they all prefer more company. It is best to keep them in numbers of at least six or so, just as with many schooling fish. What sorts of Corydoras do you find attractive? Some get larger than others, and some are more social than others. Perhaps look up a list of Corydoras species and do research on those that catch your eye?

"is there any veriety of dwarf gourami that is a bit like a moonlights colour?"

I haven't seen any dwarfs that look quite like the moonlight gourami, the closest I've seen are females of the "normal" dwarf variety. Male dwarf gouramis are usually more colorful than the girls, and oftentimes the females look drab by comparision.

"Im gonna look up some kind of shrimps to put in it"

You already have shrimp though, right? Are you looking for a different species?

EDIT: Sorry if you've already answered these questions somewhere in this thread, I'm pretty tired and probably missed some of what you said.
