Looking for suggestions on what to stock in a 29g tank. I would like to have a community tank.

You have so many possibilitys with a 29 gal. I would suggest:

6x long-finned zebra danios
6x Black Phantom Tetras
6x Panda Cories

It would be a really active, fun tank ^_^

1 moonbeam male gouramie(for a nice tint of blue)
4-5 brozen cory
3-4 albino cory
4 white skirt tetras
4 sword tails
and another mid fish, something like a maybe a small school of striped barbs(barbus eugrammus)

I just set up a 29g. I only have 8 neons and 6 panda cories in there now. I plan on having 8 neons, 8 black neons, and 8 glowlights, 8-10 panda cories, and maybe some type of gourami. That is pushing it with stocking. I may only do the neons and black neons...haven't decided yet.

I think 2 schools of tetras, a shoal of cories, and a gourami or male betta is good for a 29g. Especially if you go with bigger tetras. That's not much variety, but you shouldn't put various tetras in there.

The tetra, platy, cory idea is good. I have never kept platies though, so I don't know alot about them. If you got them I would only get males because you don't want fry overcrowding the tank.

Another schooling option besides tetras are harlequin rasboras.

Cherry barbs are peaceful, would add some nice color to the tank, and can be kept in pairs.

There really are many possibilities. A good idea is to browse thru your lfs, see what's available and what interests you, and then work on compatability and stocking limits.

I believe Theresa_M ment LFS which is just an abbreviation for local fish store.

Sorry, I'm not sure why it showed up that way but yes, I meant local fish store.

Take a pad of paper, write down both technical and common names (if available). Sometimes you'll find a fish available locally that you hadn't considered and that may work in your tank.

Keep us posted

Corys are a necessity for a tank like that. I would recommend 4-6 or more. I dont know what kind you like, but personally i like pandas and peppered.

One community fish that i personally like is a group of tetras.

Just to warn you from past experience, serpae tetras, and tiger barbs can be quite nippy.

Good luck!!!
