Well mothers day is coming around and i decided to spare one of my tanks and set it up for my mom as a gift. She always wanted a small tank so i am setting up the minibow. Question i have is will a topfin 10 gallon filter be to much for it? I have it hooked up now it seems a little strong but since guppys are going to be in there anyways (they prefer a current anyways) I could probabally push the stocking a little bit to 3 male guppys. Of course i will try and put an ornament in front of intake which should nerf the flow a little from the intake end atleast. Anyone with suggestions/experience with small tanks and overfiltration?

I was gonna suggest a betta in the 2.5 it is an awesome setup in my opinion, but know that that would be too much filtration for a guy, or 2 females, but again that is too much "suction" for them, see if you can reset the power, if you can see how slow/low you can set it...cool idea by the way, heidimichelle

i have the filter too...what i do is make sure that the spout is touching the surface of the water to reduce the current..and also....i added biomax aside from what filter media provided to further reduce the output of it as well as to increase the beneficial biological support.

So you use the topfin in a 2.5? Also where exactly are you putting the bio max? It truly doesn't seem like all that much suction to me, i put my finger over it and its barely anything. Also the guppies like current though right? I was gonna buy like 2 males to put in there. The real movement is on the top but its filled all the way so i doubt it will bother them to much. Well i guess i'll need a backup plan if this filter is to strong, any other recomendations on a filter?

I think 3 male guppies would be fine. Guppies love currents as they swim through and get what I call: flurried!!!! They get pushed by the current to the other end of teh tank, then they swim back and do it all again! They like being in groups of 3.

I also suggest male Guppy's. There are alot of colours to choose from & you don't get fry.
