I recently went on a fishing trip and have a ton of fish in my freezer. I know never to feed my piranha's live wild fish but what about if they are frozen and then I thaw them and cut them up and feed them? Wouldn't all the bacteria be dead from the freezing process??

Second question is I got alot of flourite for my tank and have a 50/50 mix with other gravel. I washed and washed the flourite but never could get it all the way clean and when I threw it in the tank about 12 hours ago the tank was cloudy. Its still about cloudy now but how long till it goes away completly???

Thanks,

Chris

It depends.

Flourite takes more rinsing than most any other substrate. It's best to do it in smaller batches (toss the used water on the lawn ). Since it's already in the tank you'll want to leave the filters running on whatever holding tank you moved the fish to while adding the flourite, or if it's still unstocked leave the filters off and alone. Once the thin layer of silt settles do a very careful sweep over the surface of the substrate with your gravel vac. All movements will silt the water and you want to avoid that as much as possible. If that thin layer of silt remains in the tank it will have a tendency to be picked up and jam up the filter, better to be safe rather than sorry.
If removing the filters is not an option get a filter floss envelope and place it over the intake of the filter. Rinse out the envelope in a seperate bucket as often as it gets clogged till the waters running clear.

Instructions are really only a guideline, it's best to use common sense . The average gravel addition process is prior to fish occupation therefore no need to worry about living beings.

How would you like having huge stones tossed in on you . Most any LFS or chain store will carry floss. If you get the envelope style ones they'll be easier to fit over the intake. I use one on my powerhead to prevent sand from getting into the impeller. They're quite tough and take plenty of abuse during the rinse off stage.

Yes, you can feed the fish to your Piranha's.
