for a week i use the 7 day feeders, and for the most part 75% of the time it turns out good. the other 25% of the time, some fish die, and water isn't good. i think a week is to long without food.

I've only had bad experiences with them. I've been gone for a week with my fish doing fine with no food. On the other hand, you could get an automatic timed feeder (battery operated type). I've had success with these before....now if only I could find it....

I used a block one time. No problems. It kind of freaks me out though.

I've never had a problem with feeder blocks... I also have a ph of 8.0 and applesnails that like to eat the white stuff the food blocks come in as well as any food the fish don't get. The snails eat the blocks faster than they dissolve in my water. They make pretty good snail treats. For feeding to top-mid swimming fish I don't think they'd be useful at all. None of my tetras even figured out the block was there. It would probably do as others said and foul the water before the fish found the food. You'd be better off using one of those feeders on timers that hangs over the side and releases flakes or pellets or else not feeding at all.

i would just feed as normal and do an extra water change before a vacation
if you can put the lights on timers, but otherwise they should be fine

well i was having probs wif my water qual. my lfs told me not to feed the litle fellers for a week, so i did, i had a few casualties, but that was because of poor water quality, but they were all fine, so i don't see any reason why yours won't be fine

your fish still have a better chance of going with no food.

I've gone away for a week with no problems, even with fry in tanks.

I turn off the tank lights but put a couple room lamps on timers so they get some light

The fish will easily survive a week without food & in the wild they only eat when they find food & surely not daily.

A week is not that long & your fish will survive. Just feed them before you go & than feed them as soon as you'll arrive. Leave the lights off & enjoy your holiday.

I also have to say that these feeder blocks are not good. I used a pyramid shaped one once when I was gone for 3 days. When I came back, part of it was still there and beneath it I had a build-up of some white slime that was sinking into the gravel. Never again…

nope... it may do more harm than gud....these stuffs just pollute the water...the fish will be better off without fud for a week than live in a polluted water...

they will survive this 1 week vacation...

I went away on holiday last week.

I was away for about 5 days. I left the lights off while I was away. And I fed the fish normally just before I left, then fed them normally when I got back. All the fish were fine. It just took them a while to adjust to the lights being turned on again.

So i just feed them like i always do the day i leave and they will be ok for a week!or should i give them some extra food..lets say 3 times..one in the morning, afternoon and night the day before i leave..

Again a big NONO as this could cause problems as well with either over eating or uneaten food giving a bacteria problem.

I would feed them as usual no more and no less.

i'd have to say, STEER CLEAR! i have tried these products once or twice and every time, they destroyed water quality and started evil algal blooms....

Hi,
These things can be dangerous as they release food products
into the water continuously, as long as they are in the
water. This can cause real problems with water quality.

Being gone for that short a time, is no problem for healthy
fish.

Honestly, I'd suggest you go on holiday, and enjoy yourself.
When you return DO NOT feed any extra (feeling sorry for
"starving" your fish) their stomachs remain the same size,
about as big as their eye. Feeding extra does nothing but
put additonal waste products in the water.

Frank
