My mother was finally ground into submission. My 40 gallon is on its way. Finally something over a 29. Anyway, stocking is now a problem. I know I want to include a clown pleco, some larger juli cories, and an upside-down catfish for sure. What else? I am open to any suggestions but would like to try my hand at angels again or maybe a small pair of peaceful cichlids. I would like to focus on bottom feeders. What do you think? THanx in advance.

You definately have to get a nice size school or corries10-15would be good

If you want Angels then 2, but well I'd go with Neons, Guppies, and Harlies...they make such a nice tank, or and don't forget your glolights

Congratulations on the new tank, sounds like fun, and it's always a thrill to start a new tank...heidi

With the Clown Pleco, alot of Corydoras & Up-side down Catfish, you can add a pair of Angels or Rams & a school of Tetra's.

Goodluck with your new tank.

I really appreciate all of the input. I have already harlies and the majority of the other tetras mentioned in my other aquariums thus I was searching for a somewhat unusual combination(s) of fish. I was thinking maybe glass catfish and by the way 20 cories if nothing else. Also could any of you reccomend some very peaceful cichlids and how to care for them as in this area I am at loss.

Okay after much deliberation I have decided (well decided is a very strong verb here as alterations are still open and I obviously want to see what you all think) upon the following for the 40:
- 6-8 Medium to Large Cory Cats (preferably Julii)
- 1 Clown Pleco
- 1 Small Angel (wary about this as I am unsure, can angels live as a single specimen)
- 1 Upside-Down Catfish
- 3-4 Kuhli Loaches
- 4 Glass Catfish????????????????
Do you think that this would be overstocking or could I possibly add anything else? Anything else you see askew?

You should add atleast 2 more USD catfish as they like to be in groups, and 2 more glass catfish. This would not be overstocking in a 50 gallon.

i say go with what you like.

if you like a certain kind of fish, look for other fish of the same family.

maybe have a goegraphy-themed tank? (amazonian tank, for example, with fish and plants from that particular area only)
a tranquility tank? (slow-moving fish)
an action tank? (very active fish or maybe aggressive fish to have their own territories each)
etc.

if to be zen-like, "you shall not ask for the answer. look inside you. go with the current, and it will guide you."
