I am reciveing a water proof box today that was DIY and is 53 gollons. I was wondering what would be the best thing to put in it in terms of fish? I was thinking maybe shubunkins, but I would like something tropical. Aby suggestions? If i dont get fish i plan to get som sort of reptile.

This box would be too small for shubunkins as they will get way too large and need much more swimming room than this will provide.

What is the makeup of this box? Is it a square shape, rectangular or what? Is it designed for aquarium usage or an indoor type of small pond? Does it have top bracing or designed in such a manner as not to bow out at the top when water is added?

Need a bit more information before much of a recommendation can be made.

Jim

Hmmmmmmmmm......I think it is like 2'deep, 3'long, 2'wide, I think. I'm going to reseal it and add some water slowly and see if it can jold it. It was filled with water before but I'm going to check to make sure, but if not I might just a some sort of reptile.

Fish Guy I'm assuming this "box" is made of glass or some other transparent material?

I'd go with angels, nice and tall, yes angels would look nice...hml

I have no idea thenunless you cut a hole in one side and add some glass or plexiglass and seal it really well, that way you could have a viewing window...otherwise I don't know what would be nice to look at, in that small of a box looking from the top...a Koi would outgrow it too fast, and you don't want to stunt it...ok someone else help here...heidi

I guess I'd do cories. You really want a fish that is pretty wide, since otherwise there won't be much too look at. So maybe a big school of C. arcuatus, or something. They'd be lots of fun, and they're the only thing I can think of right now that would be interesting to look at from above.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

It's sort of a mini pond... Hang a light over the top, let plants grow out of it. You could have flowering lillies or floating plants. Could be interesting. I'd probably do some colorful small gouramis and let them spawn. Some small fast colorful fish? Not sure what. flat fish? put lots of current in it and some hillstream loaches? some gastromyzon might show up. They are small but flat so the only way to see the fish is from above [link=http://loaches.com/species_pages/gastromyzon_punctulatus.html]http://loaches.com/species_pages/gastromyzon_punctulatus.html" style="COLOR: #00C0C0[/link]
There's dozens of hillstream species in various colors and shapes.
Maybe some small colorful plecos? [link=http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=989]http://liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=989" style="COLOR: #00C0C0[/link] Might look interesting from the top.
Some species of Rainbowfish and killis would still look pretty colorful.
Invertibrates like blue crayfish, red crabs, colorful large snails...

well, what u could do is put a bunch of rocks in there, fill it bout 3/4 full, plant it, and put in little frogs and stuff and make yourself a mini-pond as mentioned, fishwise u don't really have much options of fish that look good from the top, and goldies get 2 big for your "box"

If you wanted to do a mini indoor pond you could keep a couple fantails of some sort in there. They only get to about 6-8 inches and would do well in that big of a tub.
