Is there any other fish I could put in a 55 gallon with a severum and a african knifefish?

You have many options. African Knifefish are predatory so that cuts down your choices some, but really you still have MANY options, as many fish you can buy are compatible with the ones you are compatible with the fish in your tank. Any fish that isn't too big, too small, or too aggressive should be fine.

As previously mentioned, caution yourself with the African Knifefish in the tank. Not only will he easily outgrow a 55 gallon, but can become extremely aggressive. I've housed a couple and in some cases they have been pretty calm, but in others they have nearly tried to kill any fish in their tank. Alot depends on size and maturity I would think though. Get them young and very small (3 inches) and they might stay pretty calm. When it comes to schooling fish, I don't really know who would be appropriate that would be small enough to be able to school in a 55 gallon and not be eaten by your African Knifefish at the same time...
