Amazon Sword is a must in SA Tanks. As a substrate you can use fine gravel or if you aren't going with plants, you can use Sand. With fish, you've got a great choise to choose from. You can have Corydoras or a Plekotia as bottom feeders, most Tetra's will be quite nice, especially in schools. There are pleanty to choose from & these are just a few, Glowlight, Cardinals, Rummynose, Emperor, Buenos Aires & Lemon. You can also add Rams & Angels.

Wow, one could go on forever with that kind of lead in

Check out this site It's got great infor on types of plants and fish found in different areas of the world. Scroll down to the South America section and have a look through.

Some SA fish to look into: Angelfish, neon/ cardinal tetras, other types of small tetra and dwarf cichlids such as rams and apistos. As for plants, swords are common place, but they can become HUGE, even too big for a 55. Once again, until you give us a more specific idea of what you want it'll be hard for us to help you that much.

Back in the saddle!

wow, there is a lot to choose from with that information!!! Depends on what you really want though... schools of tetra.... angelfish... ect....what you might want to do is do some research and find a set of fish or one particular fish and then build from there! I dunno just an idea, cause you could go in a number of directions with that type of tank!- good luck choosing
