I FINALLY got my 55 gallon tank all set up!!! Yay! Right now all I have in it is 1 female guppie and 2 albino corydoras or whatever they are called (i know they should be kept in a school but i only have 2) and 1 little snail. I have been thinking about what I want to keep in it and I was wondering if something like this would work.

5 Zebra danios
6 neon tetras
5 guppies
6 corydoras
A few snails

Should I have more, less, or are these kinds not good to go together?

You could put more fish in a 55g then the ones you mentioned. I would go with a school of 10 cories, a large school of tetras... I wouldnt go with neons as they can carry NTD. Lemons, cardinals or diamonds would go nice. But if you want the guppies, avoid fin nippers, in which that case eliminate the zebra danios as they may nip at the guppies. There are plenty of other options. You could go with maybe 3 angels, a few pairs of rams, or gouramis for centrepiece fish. What I think would look nice is a big school of cardinals maybe 15 or 20 or so. There are just a few ideas for fish, but with a 55g you have many options.

I say this...

8 Albino Cory cats
15 Diamond Tetras
A centerpiece fish such as Rams or Angelfish (a severum would be nice too...get him young though if you do get one)
1 smaller pleco such as a gold nugget or a pair of BN plecos

To me, that would be a nice set up

Ok thanks for your help. Whats NTD?

I really wanted to add some zebra danios. Maybe I could not add the guppies. And have like a small school of danios, a school of cories and tetras, (cardinal maybe) and an angelfish? Something like that.

NTD is neon tetra disease. There is no cure and it's highly contagious. It is the result of massive inbreeding of neon tetras. Once it is introduced to your tank, it might be too late to save your fish when it fish start showing symptoms. i.e crooked spine, blackening of the blue stripe, the fish looks pale along with the other symptoms. It's a really nasty disease.

I don't see why your idea wouldn't work to begin with though...IMO 2 schools of fish in a tank makes a mess, but you could probably do...

3-5 Angelfish
10 Tetras
10 Danios
8-10 Cory's
1 Smaller Pleco (gold nugget or BN plecos)
And maybe 2 Bolivian Rams

How does that sound?

I would go with this setup:-

10 Corydoras of the same species.
10 Lemon or Rummynose Tetras.
2 Angels.
2 Rams.

i agree with tetra, a golden severum will look nice as the base fish, however i may get to large for the 55, if u do, only get one, without any angels. once it grows the extensions of the dorsal, it should look lovely.

A gold severum or green severum would be fine in a 55, though some do think they should be kept in a 75 gallon. they get about 8 inches long and a 55 gallon is 12 inches wide. If you get them young and get large bodied tetras such as Lemons or Diamonds (and even rummynoses are fine IME) then there should be no problems. The awesome extensions on the fins are extremely ounced in male severums and are absolutely amazing. The fmale may have some slight extensions, but the male's are simply stunning.

If it were me I would chose a severum over an angel, but angels are ok in that tank if you want them more than the severum
