My fishes are back to their 55g from a Quarantine tank 25... then when I started the setup again the fluval aquastop valve had a ripped seal (not a regular o-ring) so the entire aquastop valve has to be ordered (3 weeks at least, im in Mexico and parts are not readily available)

My 55g is left with only a 200gph powerhead with two connected Aquaclear Quickfilters, with a ball-shaped fantail goldfish, a dwarf gourami and a pearl gourami.

I have those blue plastic bioballs but it wouln't be easy to make them work with the not-working fluval...

I think it might help if I put two layers of floss in every Quickfilter. The inner layer gets populated with bacteria and when water changes, the outer layer is discarded and the inner goes to the outer layer (now with bacteria).

Now, What would you think about this?

Could you rig something wiht an electric fuel pump (well well rinsed or never used) or something just to move water? Also consider doing more frequent water changes

So you do have some filtration on it, just not quite what you really need? If that is the case, just add an extra airstone, and cross you fingers, and keep up with the water changes, maybe even more frequent smaller water changes...

That or try and reseal the piece that broke, even if it is just for temporary, resealing it and keeping an eye on it will work till you get the new piece back....best of luck, heidi

ps what part of mexico? I know if you were close enough to the border, it might be possible to hop over and get a replacement part easier...hml

The problem is: The aquastop valve has a rotary drum with some ankward, weird seals. One of two were broken so, when the hoses are unplugged, the water in the hoses is spilled everywhere instead of remaining close. Anyway, when in use it might spill lots of water...

Now, The powerhead flows really well with the venturi bubbling all the way... my concern is IF the bacteria would work attached in the plastic plants...

My concern is about chemical filtration. The quickfilters are not known to hold lots of bacteria... I wouldn't worry if the tank had months running, the bacteria would be attached to the plastic plants, gravel, etc but this is not the case.

How do you think: Could it be enough doing weekly water changes knowing the goldfish is golf-ball sized and the other two are small fishes, --- OR --- build a cheap canister filter replacement with a 2 liter soda bottle?
I know i could make it but it would look not very good hahaha

Just keep the feedings to a minimum and those fish should´t be able to give of enough ammonia to create a problem. It is a rather large amount of water and there are most sertainly a lot of bacteria in the gravel and decor allready. I doubt that you´ll even need the quickfilters but use them anyway just to make sure.

So here I am once more...

Two weeks running with the quickfilters and...

They don't suck up any gunk, just the small debris that might be flying on the tank and the result is:

The floss on the quickfilters is being seeded so i don't think I'll have any problem, just keeping the water changes a little frequent this month!

BTW, don't buy Fluvals x04 series... IMO they are not durable!
