I was thinking over my options and I have an empty 5 gallon I was thinking either:

option 1:
2 neo. brevis

option 2:
1 dwarf puffer
3 bb gobies

option 3:
3 dwarf puffers

option 4:
5 bb gobies

option 5:
5 fiddler crabs

option 6:
2 fidder crabs
3 bb gobies

option 7:
2 choco gouramis
4 cherry barbs

Personally, I's stuck between 1 and 7. Whcih do you all like?

I think option seven is a bit overstocked... that's eight inches of fish with just the barbs. I'd think if you went in that direction, a pair would be best. Not sure about the chocolate gouramis... don't know much about them.

The shellies would be fun and something interesting to try. But, well, if it were me, I'd go with some combination of gobies or puffers... of course, I've wanted to try that for a while.

#7 would be rather overstocked. I'd recommend either #1, the puffer species tank, or the goby species tank. I wouldn't make that tank a community, just a species tank for one of those three...

PM/email/msg me if you have any questions/comments regarding me or my knowledge or if you want me to read a thread.

Chocolate gouramis have specific water requirements and are considered very difficult to keep. Of course someone will come along and say they have them in a general community tank with no problems, but that's not the norm. Read through the profile [link=here]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/chocolate.xml" style="COLOR: #FFCC99[/link] and do more research if you're interested in them.

You could check into the availablity of sparkling or licorice gouramis though.

Cherry barbs would look great in a small tank

In my experience with dwarf puffers I've found they like to have a friend or two. I currently have one; when he lost his mate he wouldn't swim or eat. I finally put him in my guppy-fry-grow-out-tank and now he's happy again. Go figure

BBGs and fiddlers do best in brackish water. Fiddlers also need to be able to get out of the water; they also need a well covered tank since they are escape artists. Fiddlers won't bother fish. I've kept them with mollies, glassfish, and BBGs without problems. They have no interest in the fish at all.

The Chocolate Gourami is a species recommended for the advanced aquarist looking for a rewarding challenge.

That is exactly what I'm looking for . The LFS near my unlce has a pair in an 8 gallon eclipse with about 10 cherry barbs and it looks very nice. The gouramis appear to be healthy. Of course, that is a bit overstocked so I would only do 1 gourami and a trio of barbs (1m 2 f). I was thinking about ottos, but I'm not going to consider them right away. Too risky in a 5 gallon.

EDIT: I will probably set up a brevis tank later on. Also, I can't find dwarf puffers in my area, so I have given up on them.

7 it is!
I'll be setting it up in the near future. Cherrys will go in first, and once everything is nice and the water is good, I'll get the gourami.
