Dude, small hitch, you cant get dwarf puffers or ADFs in Australia. I wish you could, but you can't

I'm confused, which size tank are you buying?

I think $50 is pretty steep for clown fish. They are about $10 - $15 each over here. By pair, maybe they mean a breeding pair. In that case, yo should stay clear of those. If this is going to be your first saltwater tank, then you shouldn't breed.

if you stay with freshwater why not go for lots of small schooling fish in that 30 gallon you mentioned.

20 Gallon Long:
Aquaclear 300
2 Bolivian Rams, Mikrogeophagus altispinosus: Gumby and Pokey

You will have to ask the salties, its not my strong suit

It will also depend on what type of clowns they are, tomato, black, etc etc. there are lots of types.

Dwarf puffers are not on the allowable import list, probably because of the fact they are FW and would compete with our native FW fish if they were released. We didn't have a good stock of them before the import list was introduced, so there are no breeders that are able to supply them.

The best you can hope for is a Toadfish, which would be too big for your tank, and are brackish. You would need to catch them yourself too.

ADFs because there are supposed to be NO reptiles or amphibians that are non-native available for sale.

Small exception is the axolotl, because it has very specific habitat needs. It is however, banned in Tasmania, because the environment there is pretty well suited.

"but try for a ten livebearers,tetras,barbs,small cats,gourami."

I wouldnt put ten of anything in there. Id avoid all those choices except guppies. They all school and wont have enough room. I have a five gal and it is simply too small.

EDIT: Chris, did you mean a 10 gal? I would agree with those choices if you meant a 10 gal. I think i may have read you wrong.

Could I put an ADF with a Dwarf puffer? Any other suggestions about what I could put with a dwarf puffer or 2?

For some reason I think they are soooo cute! (any Ideas why)

How much do dwarf puffers cost? do they blow up like a balloon like that fish from finding nemo?

You could do a school of small tetras or harliquin Rasboras. There are many other options, check your LFS and see what you like. Let us know and you can get help working out your stocklist.
