If you started with the guppies that would be ok. Then wait the full 2 weeks before adding any other fish, and you will know if your gupps are disease free.
All 3 times this happened to me, I got the fish from different stores, even in different towns.

im not in the position to set up another tank now, however small it may be, unless we're talking a 1 gallon container. is there anywhere I can buy from where ill have a good chance of disease free guppies? theres nothing else in the tank anyway, ill skip on the cories...just 4 fancy guppies...anyway if i need to set up a QT tank, ill just add one male betta, thatll bne a nice planted setup...but the guppies would be cool

Labrakitty has got a really good point here.
It is in my experience with guppies 2 facts: Guppies are hardy, healthy fish usually; Guppies often have disease and parasites.
I bought a guppy pair from a store, didnt quarantine, and lost 70% of my fish in my tank in 1 weeks time.
Several months later, I stupidly bought more guppies without quarantining, and again lost almost half of my fish in my tank to another disease.
I also, in the early days of my fish keeping experience, had to completely tear down my 10g tank and euthanize several guppies due to a massive camallanus worm infection.
I highly recommend guppies, they are beautiful, wonderfully personable fish, however, the moral of this story is QUARANTINE NEW FISH!!!
Treat these new fish in the quarantine tank for internal parasites and with a broad spectrum antibiotic and keep them in the quarantine tank for at least 12 days, preferably more.

For a 7 gal id go with 3 or 4 at first. I really dont think i would do 7 or 8. If your heavily planted and filtered well, your bio-load could take 7 or 8, but i think theyd be over crowded. I could see four being very happy in that tank. Just cos theyre small doesnt mean they dont enjoy having the room to swim around. Are you planning on breeding?

ETA:Quarenting is a good idea, just remember that all new additions should be QT'ed. The hardiness of a guppy, as with all fish, depends upon the stock you get them from. Check out the store you would be getting them from and see what the stock is like beforehand.

I am not saying they won't fit you could have atleast 7-8 in there. I am saying you should be really careful choosing them and quarantining them because you will most likely have lots of diseases.

Guppies are fine to keep ina 7gallon tank i dont know what labrakittys talking about. They will most likely breed on you and you will ahve to many to handle so you may want to get all males which are the more prettier of the

good luck with the tank.

Guppies are also known as millionsfish and hence, that is the reason. The go forth and multiply, and multiply, and multiply some more and.....yeah! I have two males - a Green Cobra going just over 2 years old and an endler size guppy from a feeder tank that turned out quite pretty and is also just over 2 years old. I personally would not recommend any guppy, even a single male in anything less than a 10 gallon. It just isn't room enough for them to sretch out and explore.

What kind of cories did you get? It would have been nice if you managed to get a pygmy species. They don't grow much more than an inch and the males in many cases don't even get that big. I have habrosus cories in my 20 long and the largest, full grown female is just about 1 inch. The rest are not full grown, but I expect the males to be no bigger than 3/4 inch, if that. Hastatus is another pygmy species. Stay clear of cories that require larger schools like Pandas. Some species like Jullii do pretty well in shoals of 3. It's not ideal, but in a small tank you are limited. Therefore, I'd add one small cory and 2 neons and I would watch the nitrates very closely. Your challenge in that small tank will be to keep the nitrates at 5-15 ppm. However, with plants and co2, I don't think you'll have a problem. If they soak it up, you'll be looking to add a nitrogen source.

Vic, I'm looking at the same tank for a planted betta tank. I'm very curious about pH and the Hagen Co2 device. Do you have other tanks in the house without co2 that you could compare the pH in the Minibow with? I want to know how much the pH will drop in that size tank. I know it can be used from 5 gallons up to 20 and that the rate cannot be set. I don't want to use it if it will drop me from my usual 7.7-7.8 down to 7.0.

Hmmm... I started with three guppies and wound up with a million. Okay, I exaggerate, but still, I had at least two dozen by the time my danios got through with having sushi and I seperated out the males. My sister took the males, and I have the females.

Of the original three, one female died (she had to be moved while in the midst and/or just before she dropped, due to a tank leak) after a month or two. My sister has had issues with her tank recently and lost a few of the males, but all my girls are going strong. I have one of the original females and at least a dozen female offspring.

I have found these guppies to be hardy and quite healthy. I've never had a health issue with a single one of them. They eat voraciously and seem to be quite healthy. The parents are yellow leopards, though some of the male offspring have reverted to wild coloring.

Of course, these fish were offspring from a very reputable LFS who has sparkling clean tanks and nary an illness that I can see. I don't get my fish from anywhere else. *shrugs*

Just to clear up a few things. As someone who has kept guppies, they arent the hardiest of fish...but if you get them from a good store (or sometimes even a crappy one) they make a great addition to a cycled tank. Please do not let a few bad experiences turn you away from such a livelyand pretty fish. Remember: The plural of anecdote is not data

I've got a 7 gallon minibow moderatly-heavily planted with CO2 and high lighting....filtration is an aquaclear 150.
Is this overstocked?

4 neon tetras
2 corys
3 ghost shrimp

can I add anymore tetras?

Have any photos of the setup? It sounds cool. I always have such trouble planting such small tanks since many plants are too big.

Whoa, ok no guppies... ill stick with 6 neon tetras and ill skip on the cories since I don't want a really high bio-load. I'll also add 3 or 4 ghost shrimp.

guppies used to be great beginners' fish. The 'modern' ones seem to catch something new every week. My mom says she wants to get guppies because she likes them and grew up with them. I have to keep reminding her how the last couple tanks with guppies went...

If you want to undertake some sort of project to strengthen guppy genetic lines with feeder guppy stock, then there's a great idea. But you'll need more than one 7 gallon tank to do it.

NOT FANCY GUPPIES!! People say they are begginners fish but that is the biggest lie ever~!!!!!!!!!!!! I would absoloutely not recommend guppies unless you qurantine. If you don't mind getting a parasite in your tank every month then that is ok. Tehy are highly supsectable to parasite even in great water quality. I have guppies and before I quarantined I had gill flukes, oodinium, bacterial disease, unknown parastie, dropsy and camallanus worms in my tank all from guppies. I lost about 5 fish through all of these diseases. They are so inbred for their colours that they are to supsectable to parasites. They will only live about 1 year anyway. Please do not get guppies.]:|

Yes, i would get 2 more tetras and mabe one more cory just to have 3. Though cories will do better in a much better school 3 should be just fine imo.
