Noodles- I absolutely cannot afford to buy even 1 more discus. I have $35 dollars store credit that I got for my balas and some platys, and was thinking some type of fish/fishes that would fit in that price range.

Meh, you don't get the same activity and enjoyment with a pair, they're schoolers through and through.

Really? Mine always fight with each other. I was actually think of returning two of them so I only have one.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

Red lines are even more expensive here. Over in India, they are native, so you have them at relatively cheap prices.

May I suggest a school of Denison Barbs. I just got these fish and they are very active and very beautiful.

They are cyprinids and have the temper of the bala shark.

Another favourite of mine would be the Green Terror, that's if you like Cichlids.

Here is a picture of the Denison Barb:

http://www.koicarp.co.uk/puntius_denisonii_x.jpg

Oops, sorry, I take that back, the Green terrors would terrorise the tank, and the Denisons are much too expensive.

A nice type of gourami might do you good. That kissing gourami looks nice, or a sevrum or something.

I have decided that seeings I have a single Boesmani rainbow, and space is at a premium, that I will get 2 more Boesmani rainbows to keep him company. Also,
I am going to be setting up my 10g tank again, and will be moving a school of fish into there- either the dwarf gouramis to try breeding, or the neons, or the pair of sailfin molly to try to get some fry, or something else.
Anyway, just a matter of getting all the boxes in my den unpacked, and then I can set up my 10g again, and use my danios to cycle it.

Iltat, Liverpool Museum paired up Rummies and Cardinals with Discus in a huge aquarium ... something like 30 Discus and 200 each of Rummies and Cardinals ... mind you the tank was big enough to sail a boat on the surface

However, it was a stunning display. Top marks for the suggestion Iltat.

A large school of Rummynose Tetras would probably look pretty nice there...

How about a Kissing gourami?
I know it's a big fish but they filled up the hole in my tank that my balas left, they don't really bother anything else and if you can get over how funny looking they are they're quite a nice fish

Oh yeah, I forgot about the cost of discus up there. Sorry. ;_;

Hm...I would trade in the danios and dwarf gouramis (and maybe a species of tetra) for maybe two to three more farlowellas. Otherwise, I'd leave the tank as is---it's pretty much fully stocked.

Well, The Bala Sharks, some Platys, and a few other fish have gone off to the LFS. Now the boyfriend and I are feeling a sense of loss. We really did love those Bala Sharks. So, heres the question, what can we replace the Balas with, that doesnt get so large, is kind of similarly tempered to the balas, or similar looking (or maybe not),
that we could keep in the following conditions:
75g Tank
82F
ph 7.0
GH 100ppm
Heavily Planted with Driftwood
Any suggestions would be welcome. We were considering a BGK, but then that is a fish you neither see much, nor would be able to live more than 2 years in our tank.
So, Suggestions suggestions please for a fish that is Mid level swimmer, large but not too large, could be a small school or a single individual. We removed 3 Bala Sharks, umpteen Platys, and some other small fishes.
The Dojos are also leaving soon. Thanks.

In a discus tank? I think not. If you clear up more room, I'd give your turks some company; discus are social fish.

So far, the only ideas we have come up with is:
A single Green Severum
A Firemouth
Another small school of a midwater fish such as a tetra, or perhaps a rasbora, maybe a danio of some kind?

You seem kinda fully-stocked, though, I don't know if a school of anything very big would be a good fit.

True SAEs are as active, a similar "sharky" look, about as fun, playful, and entertaining as any fish I've ever owned (or, for that matter, otter I've ever seen), and will of course be good workers in the tank.
