Yes, it's good to have an airstone in an overstocked tank, but the best thing is, to remove some of the fish & put them in another tank.

ahhhh...well, it isnt overstocked.....YET...when the bn pleco gets full size, the 8 barbs are adults, and the 6 corys become full grown, it will be overstocked i assume.

i just wondered if a airstone was a good idea

Airstones are good for circulating water from the bottom of the tank to the top to be freshened up. Also, the action of the bubbles breaking agitates the surface which also promotes gas exchange, making for a more oxygenated tank

Airstones are also bad if you have a heavily planted tank, as the CO2 will be driven out tha the plants like Also, for labyrynth fish such as bettas and gouramis, the constant agitation would make it hard for them to build a nest and have babies.

So, it depends on the situation. In yours, it's probably fine.

If your gonna overstock do 2 things, imo

1. get an airstone

2. Do lots of samll water changes. Make a schedule where you change 2-3 or gallons every other day and stick to it (thats the hard part)

I certainly would remove some of the fish before it causes you too many problems and more work. Once it starts to get too much of a work load you could loose interest very quickly and finally loose all your fish.

See if a LFS will take the extra fish of place an add here in FP.

well,at a later date i will most likely give away or sell the BN pleco if i decide not to get a larger tank.

honestly, would a 2.5" bumblebee cat full grown,6 corys(2" full grown each) and 8 tiger barbs really be overloading a 29 gallon?

right now only the bumblebee and 1 of the corys and 2 ob the tiger barbs are truly full grown, everything else is still a baby. pleco is less than 2",the albino and other tiger barbs are about 1",and the other corys are 1"-1.5"...
i have a over the back 50 gallon filtration system, air stone, and i do 20% water changes a week. no ammonia levels at all...

No way that stock would overload the tank. I have 5 Tigers, 4 Black Rubies, 3 Cherries, 1 Bolivian Ram and 1 SAE in my tank and everyone is doing fine.

nah. Just keep it clean. Sounds like a great setup.

Will the bumblebee go ok with the tigers?
