In what sized tank? If there is plenty of room, then they should coexist. A. calvus aren't super mean cichlids or anything, though they will gobble up smaller tankmates. If the shark is around the same size as the calvus, I don't really see any problems with aggression.

Just a note: Red tailed black sharks don't like the super-high pH levels that calvus are often kept in, and prefer a more neutral pH. If you are going for something 7.6 and up, you may want to rethink the shark. It would probably survive the pH, but it would not be super happy about it.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

I wouldn't. It wouldn't be an ideal setup on either end and while I agree the shark would probably be safe from the calvus, given space, I'm not sure the opposite would be true.

Which species do you have now/is the tank intended for? Maybe we can suggest some alternatives.

One big reason not to is that calvus are super shy eater and a RTBS can get rowdy and scare the calvus so they don't eat.

At about 23 gallons, that tank's too small for the Calvus or the RTBS I'm afraid.
Is your water fairly soft, netural, or hard? Maybe we can suggest alternate fish based on that.

The PH is undetermined at present as i am just about to start it today!!! I really like the look of RTB sharks and like the characteristics of Cichlids
