I'm hoping for a large livingroom centerpiece, on the order of 300 US gallons, to be the long-term home for my clown loaches and siamese algae eaters. Another peaceful fish I hope to include is the Congo Tetra. Two of my favorite fish are the Altum Angelfish, probably one of the more aggressive types I like, and the Bloodfin Tetra--one of the smallest that I like. I'd expect these somewhat larger, wild angelfish to more aggressive than the scalare angel, which I know will munch on somewhat smaller tetras, like glow-light or neons. Is the bloodfin too small to be in a tank with these angelfish? Another fascinating tank mate might be a few African Butterflies. Given a large tank (31-36" deep, 6-8ft long) I'm hoping all these can co-habitate. Any thoughts? Thanks, Gary |

They're a little large to be an easy snack for the angels, and if they school together, it's unlikely they'll get bullied at all. You can also get the tetras first and then introduce the angels, and this sometimes prevents agression because the angel knows it's the interloper. Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean... |

Make sure that the tank is big enough & there are some hiding places, such as Plants for the Tetra's, so they don't be chased by the Angels. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

This gives me comfort that I'm not making a bad mix. I'm still a long way from engineering this whole thing, but I want to get my goal well defined before I start the long process of reinforcing the floor, adding electric circuits to handle lighting, heating pumping, building a stand, etc. It will definitely have lots of hiding places, born of the desire to let my clown loaches play, and lots of plants and rocks, because I enjoy aquascaping almost as much as I do watching the fish. Thanks again, Gary |
