Okay to mix these two? I recently visited the Newport Aquarium (Newport KY, just outside of Cincinnati,OH) and one of the most beautiful displays had ANgelfish and Cardinal Tetras. I know Angels and Neon Tetras do not mix too well. Apparently Cardinals and Angels are okay?

They should be okay if you start out with small angels and large cardinals. Cardianl tetras get slightly larger than neons, so they tend to be better tankmates. It is important, however, to make sure that the cardinal tetras have a place to hide (like heavily planted areas), just to make sure they can get away if the angels do decide to chase them.

I've seent that same setup Mary, when I visited a couple other friends from here that live in Cincinnati! I thought the same thing, but if I remember correctly, I believe that tank was COMPLETELY full of grasses of some type. That planting gives the cardinals enough of an advantage that, even if one of those angels gets a tad munchy, most, if not all of them, can escape rather easily...

Yes they can be together but for how long is a different matter as the Angles get bigger also become beter hunters and require more food By By tetras.

one of my favourite tanks ever was a three foot tank, heavily planted with swords, with 30 cardinals and three pure white pearlscale angels. never lost a cardinal to the angels, but i agree with the other posts that this was probably due to plenty of hiding spots. keeping yr angels well-fed helps too.

Fully grown Angels might eat the Cardinals, but with some plant cover they might make it.

How much plant cover is enough

The answer is very simple the better/more hiding placed they have the greater chance of survival.

This also depends on the individual in how they interpurate the words "how much"

my angels were just fine with cardnials and neons, i guess that larger angels may not be as compatible.

Instead of asking how much is enough, the only question that should occur to you is, "Is there a way to put TOO MUCH coverage in this tank?" Basically, put as much as you can possibly fit in there...
