Wow!! I just bought two angelfish for my 55 gallon THREE days ago, and already they're laying eggs!! The mother (rounded papilla, I guess?) is a veiltail koi, the daddy is a gold standard tail.

What do I do?!! Will the babies make it?

It's a 55 gal planted tank (they're laying their eggs on wood, a cypt wendtii leaf, and the glass). Inhabitants include 1 shy dojo loach, 5 silvertip tetras, 4 golden wonder killifish, 1 serpae tetra that I'm TRYING to catch but I CAN'T (I know he cant be in there), 1 juvenile ctenopoma acusitoire (who I need to move to a different tank eventually), 1 peckolitia plec, and 5 otos.

Will they eat the eggs? Or can the angels fend them off? And suggestions of what I should do? Should I feed them BBS when they hatch? Thanks!

Is this their first time breeding?
Generally, it takes a pair three or four attempts to get it right, so I wouldn't worry if the eggs are infertile, disappear, or the parents lose interest.

If you want to raise the fry, the parents will need a tank of their own (a 20 or 30 gallon will do). Once the fry get free swimming, the tankmates will more than likely pick them off one by one.

Good luck

I'm guessing they're first time breeders, because I got them from seperate tanks in the LFS...

Oh, well, I guess I'll need to look for a tank to breed them in in the future... thanks!
