| Angels and Rummy Noses | |
SJinNJ![]() Fish Addict Posts: 568 Kudos: 447 Votes: 16 Registered: 21-May-2003 ![]() | Hey folks, Just a quick question. Does anybody keep Angels and Rummy Nose Tetras together? I see folks suggesting it on these boards, but with Rummy Noses having that similar neon shaped torpedo body it would seem that once the Angels are big enough they might start munching the Rummies down. I'm interested to know if anybody actually has kept the two together. |

Rummynose tetras are not only faster and larger than neons and cardinals, but they school more tightly as well. That makes it tougher for an angel to single out one fish to pick off. ![]() |

Some of my rummies are barely over an inch and I just can't see an angel fish really knowing the difference between a rummy and a neon. I would assume rather the angel would be thinking, can I eat that? If they're the same size and shape, (which they are) what would stop the angel from having a Rummy snack? |

The angels pretty much ignore the rummies and the rummies never trouble the angels. It's a great combination -- I wouldn't worry about it. |

Most of my rummies are 1.5-2 inches long. As long as you get your angel small, I think it will be fine with those small rummies. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

At the moment i am also keeping RummyNose Tetra's & Angels, but the Angels are quite small (3 months old) & the RummyNose are bigger than the 1 i mentioned above. To be honest, that was the only time i saw my Angels eating other fish. How big are your Angels?. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

I believe it is better to have the tetras establish themselves first and then add the angels when their small. If they angels grow up with the rummynoses in there, I don't think they will be a problem. By the way I've had a school of 8 rummynoses with 2 angels for 1 1/2 years and only 1 rummy died and it wasn't because of the angel. Last edited by tetratech at 12-Jun-2005 14:37 My Scapes |

An angel was one I was thinking about. But, even if there is only a very slim chance, I don't want to risk any of rummy noses getting eaten. So it looks like I won't be getting an angel. Thanks for all the replies folks. |

Another good fish to go in their would be keyhole or bolivan ram. Both are very peaceful. Stay away from Blue Rams, although I've had one now about a year. They are very water sensitive and have a short lifespan. My Scapes |
