Hey folks,

Just a quick question. Does anybody keep Angels and Rummy Nose Tetras together? I see folks suggesting it on these boards, but with Rummy Noses having that similar neon shaped torpedo body it would seem that once the Angels are big enough they might start munching the Rummies down. I'm interested to know if anybody actually has kept the two together.

Nah, it's fine. Rummynose tetras are not only faster and larger than neons and cardinals, but they school more tightly as well. That makes it tougher for an angel to single out one fish to pick off.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Sirbrooks,

Thanks for the quick reply.

However, I was looking for someone who does keep the two together.

Some of my rummies are barely over an inch and I just can't see an angel fish really knowing the difference between a rummy and a neon. I would assume rather the angel would be thinking, can I eat that? If they're the same size and shape, (which they are) what would stop the angel from having a Rummy snack?

I have a school of rummies with a pair of angels and never event a hint of trouble. The angels pretty much ignore the rummies and the rummies never trouble the angels. It's a great combination -- I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a big school of rummies with a full-grown angel. I lost 2 to him once, but they were very small ones. Most of my rummies are 1.5-2 inches long. As long as you get your angel small, I think it will be fine with those small rummies.

They shade the glow of it with their mossy-misty costumes,
They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver,
So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces.

I kept RummyNose Tetra & fully grown Angels together & saw my Angel swallowing the Tetra & leaving the tail out of her mouth but the RummyNose was quite small & not fully grown.
At the moment i am also keeping RummyNose Tetra's & Angels, but the Angels are quite small (3 months old) & the RummyNose are bigger than the 1 i mentioned above.
To be honest, that was the only time i saw my Angels eating other fish.
How big are your Angels?.

I have 15 cardinals and 7 rummynoses together iwith 2 large angels and have never had a problem.

I believe it is better to have the tetras establish themselves first and then add the angels when their small.
If they angels grow up with the rummynoses in there, I don't think they will be a problem.

By the way I've had a school of 8 rummynoses with 2 angels for 1 1/2 years and only 1 rummy died and it wasn't because of the angel.

I don't have any Angels. I was considering adding a centerpiece fish to my 75 gallon community tank. An angel was one I was thinking about. But, even if there is only a very slim chance, I don't want to risk any of rummy noses getting eaten. So it looks like I won't be getting an angel. Thanks for all the replies folks.

You can add an Angel, find a small one & it wouldn't harm your Rummies.

I agree with jason, put a small angel and the rummys will be fine. Another good fish to go in their would be keyhole or bolivan ram. Both are very peaceful. Stay away from Blue Rams, although I've had one now about a year. They are very water sensitive and have a short lifespan.

I'll most likely add a Bolivian Ram as my centerpeice fish. A LFS around here gets some really nice ones from time to time. I'll wait til they get a nice one in. Again, thanks for all the replies folks.

i have a pair of breeding angels in a 29 galon with some rummies, rummies just get chased away from their "nest" when bredding, no eating involved, but my angels are only about 2 inches
