| Another stocking suggestion thread :) 15-gallon | |
Dave in the Basement![]() Fingerling Posts: 17 Kudos: 17 Votes: 10 Registered: 11-May-2005 ![]() | Hello all! I have a very well-established 15 gallon aquarium that has some capacity remaining, and I was hoping for some suggestions. Current contents: 4 Zebra Danios – phasing them out, most likely 1 Black Molly/Guppy hybrid Golden Apple snails (Brigs) – 3 adults and lots of babies (who are moving out) 10ish Cherry shrimp I also have lots of floating plants (Anacharis, Java Ferns, etc., and some Crypts on the way.) There is also a giant cave, if I could find some fish(es) that would enjoy that. That would be ideal, but I can’t think of any good cave-dwellers that wouldn’t quarrel with the current residents. I haven’t finish looking through my fish book for ideas, but here are a couple of ideas that I have come up with: A small school of Neon Tetras or Cardinals A rummy nose tetra or two Some additional mollies Some swordtails – my favorite option, but I haven’t had any success keeping them alive A Betta – assuming he wouldn’t harass the Molly/Guppy Please feel free to fire any suggestions or questions my way. Thank you in advance for taking the time to reply. ![]() Dave |

Rummy nose are schooling just like any other tetra, IMO they're too big for the space you have available. If you really want tetras go with the cards as they remain smaller. ^_^ [hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. The hope that starts, The broken hearts... They are extremely water sensitive and although they can be adapted to different conditions they do better in warmer, acidic water. You must change alot of water to keep these fish long-term. A nice fish that you will probably do well with are Harquelin Rasboras. Rummynoses like similiar conditions to cardinals and rams, but are easier to keep. My Scapes |

Many of them are even smaller than neons, but they do need plants to hide in either live of fake. Exclamation point rasboras, and pork chop rasboras I've both seen in my LFS's. Another one that stays small is the Least rasbora, I think (not sure) that it may also be known as dwarf rasbora. ^_^[hr width='40%'] The life, the love, You die to heal. A rummynose or two is likely to be seen poorly by the schooling fish fans, but to be honest that paticular tetra can do well in smaller numbers. In my 125 gallon tank I had a school of rodwayi's and a few cardinals (5) and a school of neons and then a single rummynose I rescued. That rummynose never schooled with any of the other tetras and always displayed good nose color and activity. He died during a tank move. Just my experience Koi Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn. |

As much as I would like to add a couple of Cichlids to the mix, I don’t think I am ready for that level of expertise quite yet. (I would feel better if I had another tank that I could use as a species-only tank.) I think I’ll take my time, and perhaps pick up a nice Molly or Platy, if one catches my eye. I have also considered adding a Pearl Gourami, but I have heard they are very shy, and I don’t think it would be happy in my aquarium. Thanks again! ![]() Dave |
