Hey there I had very similar problems and kept adding and adding and adding, till i finally said forget it]:|

As soon as the water changes color is where you should stop counting, for both tests...don't wait till it gets dark

the GH test has got me stumped]:|

that being said, is GH really that important? or can i survive with just the KH? i'm keeping rift lake cichlids.

Please don't take this as an insult, but are you guys following the instructions? That is, are you shaking after adding each drop? The blending of colors occurs when the mixing is incomplete. I find that when I mix completely, shake every drop or at least every two drops, the transition is very sharp and obvious.

Hi,
I've been using those test kits for ages.
When they changed colors, they got even better.

Hints....
Do the tests in a brightly lit area.
Set the vials on a piece of white paper.
Count the drops, use the plastic caps, and invert the
vial after the addition of each drop.
When you detect a change in tint, Stop. That is your
reading. Dont try to change the water from orange
to kelly green, when it looses it's orange and changes
to a green tint, that's it.

Frank
