what size tanks are they and what fish do you still have and what did you have? personally I'd fill them with cichlids and puffers. as for the algae buildup I'd put in some bristlenose and let them go to town.

My suggestion:

I assume your 55g is a community tank... if so leave it. Redecorate it as you see fit (maybe new gravel, put some real plants in there if you like, etc) and restock it with either new fish to replace the ones that died, or with something new that interests you and are compatible with your current fish.

Make each of the 20gs a biotope. One could be Asia and the other South America. Asian fish include gouramis, loaches, flying foxes, harlequin rasboras, and others. South American fish include tetras, pencilfish, rams and other dwarf cichlids, corys, plecos (you'd want a bristlenose for their size and addiction to algae ), and others. You'd just have to plan them out so as not to overstock. One could also be an Australian biotope with rainbows and cerain gobys.

As for the 10gs, make some of them breeding tanks. Fish that are easy to breed include of course livebearers, kribensis, rams, corys, bettas, tetras (more challenging), barbs, the list goes on.

Hopefully that got your imagination jump started.

for one of the 10 gallons I'd get some salt and make it a brackish tank for a figure 8 puffer. or keep the 10 fresh and get dwarf puffers and make one of the 20's brackish for a couple figure 8's.

Jason and his puffers!!

I would get something that is fairly easy to breed, but also gets a good price in fish stores.

One example is angelfish. Steve, a coworker, breeds angelfish. He does so much of it that 75% of my store's angelfish stock are from him.

Use the 20 gallons as the breeder tanks and the 10 gallons to raise the fry until they are large enough to sell. Depending on the fish, you wont get too much. A good target range is about 1 to 2 bucks per fish. Depending on the fish, they store will buy about 30 to 75 fish at a time, and some fish might become a monthly thing. So you looking at maybe an extra $150 a month at MOST. You may get lucky and get more, but I doubt most people can get more than $50 a month.

Just a suggestion.

Go killies mate You can fit a few trios in a 10 gallon, dividing it up. Some fundulopanchax gardneri or some of the nothobranchius species would be sweet Just don't mix 'em, crossbreeding is a no no with killis. They can be tough to find, but they rock

Bust on some blue eyed rainbowfish for the other tanks! Some furcatas, gertrudaes, and signifers would be beautious
