They are called Butterfly Gobies (even though they aren't gobies) or Leaf Goblinfish. Their scientific name is Neovespicula depressifrons, and they get about 2.5-3" long. They are brackishwater fish, and are peaceful to other species. They need live or frozen food.

I have set up tanks specifically for these little fish, and while I have a significant amount of experience with them, I have never owned them personally.

What about sand on the bottom with Holey Rock, and about ten of these guys?

(Photo taken from Practical Fishkeeping)

They are small, social scorpionfishes that live in slightly brackish water. They are really unusual, but not too rare.

Normally I don't post about the free/cheap tanks I find, but this deal was too good to not say anything...

Here's what I got for just $32 today:

35 gallon acrylic tank and lid (hexagon)
Hexagonal tank stand
35 pounds of natural gravel
20 watt fluorescent light
NEW 100 watt heater
NEW AquaClear 301 powerhead
pH test kit
Whisper air pump (with tubing)
Two air stones
Two glass thermometers
12" gravel vac with 6' tubing
About 10 containers of various food (probably old)
Fake castle thing

...And there might be a couple other things. This is just what I could remember off the top of my head.

The lesson: Always go "garage sale-ing" on Saturdays.

Not sure. My sister threw out the idea of a Blind Cave Fish biotope tank, which sounds pretty cool.

I love N. depressifrons....been keeping them for years (although not currently, as my last two passed on after 5 years before I could discover the trick to spawning them).

Good catch...now you know why most weekends can find me having hit 10-20 garage sales before 10am.
