Those who live where chronomid midges occur naturally might be able to set up an outdoor pond and collect the larvae seasonally.I know someone who released live bloodworm into pond which then bred for two seasons surviving the unusually warm winters in that time in the uk, but this is highly unusual and not really ecologically sound. |

I wouldn't say they're worth the effort to try to catch just bloodworms! As for raising them, since they're the larvae of midges, a flying insect, rather than completely aquatic worms, they're not really easy to cultivate like tubifex... ><> |

But i'm afraid it might have diseases. For now, i've been buying frozen blood worms. Another question, "which is best, frozen or freeze dried?" ![]() |

You take a risk with any other type. Dried will lose a lot of vitamins and other nutrients, and straight frozen with no irradiation may just put some persistant diseases effectively in stasis until they thaw out, although freezing does kill most diseases. |
