I just bought a baby whale out of sympothy for the poor thing... It was being picked on in the LFS tank. I will add pictures once I find some batteries for the Digi cam. I need to know about any specific care tips ASAP!!! All I know is that it is like a BGK in that it uses electrical signals to navigate.

These fish are really odd, they've never grown on me. I would probably be incapable of feeling sorry for one, regardless of how much it was being picked on.

Anyways, they are nocturnal, need hiding places, and shouldn't be kept with aggressive fish. To my knowledge, they don't care for flake foods, and should be fed on mostly live and frozen foods. I've read that these fish can be kind of sensitive, so take care in helping it recuperate. If it was beaten up on at the LFS like you said, it may be in bad shape. Too much shock could well be fatal.

Daniel, Maybe I'm miss reading this, you did say Baby Whale, correct? I suspect that it is going to need an extremely huge tank. And what exactly are you going to do when it's full grown...Am I showing my stupidity, or am I miss reading this Baby Whale Sorry stunned is my thought...Best of luck, Heidi

A Baby Whale is a fish similar to an Elephant Nose. It, too, is a Mormyrid.

I felt the same way about a poor clown knife I saw at a chain store. It was 15" in a way too small tank. I resisted though knowing I couldn't provide it a good home.
