fishyhelper288![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Fish Guru Posts: 2161 Kudos: 1951 Votes: 137 Registered: 29-Feb-2004 | if you have both sexes, then you will notice that one group will get alot of color quite fast, and another group will stay a little less colorfull. the less colorfull group will show a dark or black spot right near the vent. the clolrfull group will have an elongated anal fin. the key is [more colorfull + elongated anal fin = male](males will also show body color) [less colorfull + dark or black spot = female](females will not show body color) |

Thats the anal fin. As male guppies (endlers, swords & platies too) grow and mature, the anal fin becomes thin, boney looking and pointy as it modifies into a gonopodium (a sexual organ which serves a similar function as on male mammals). The change in this fin should be apparent even before you see colour development. The female's anal fin remains soft, full and rounded looking, like a little fan. |
