OK I was looking at Big Al's last night, and was mainly concentrating on the fish foods they had...I'm lazy and hate having to go and buy more food everytime I turn around, and would rather buy it in larger quantities if I can afford itI noticed that they had their own name brand...

So the question is:
Is there fish food worth it? Is it really good like Hikari? I like the Hikari and TopFin brands but if it's just one of those two being repackaged in there own package (some off brands are this way) I'll go for it...

What do ya'll think?

its a toss up, like supermarket brands. i would try, b/c they know fish. and they would have alot to lose if it wasan't good, where compared to a small lfs. try it. but overall its your money. i would get from drsfostersmith though, thats just me.

I would be very cautious in buying bulk from an unknown brand. At least good brand names have a reputation to uphold. Its the old story again quality=price.

If you don't have alot of tanks, don't buy in bulk. You can also feed you fish home made foods.

I'm pretty sure it's different food entirely, rather than repackaged.
Seems most of my fish are rather picky about their foods and will reject a new food @first, now they will all eat the big als food. It's not the only food that I feed them but mixed in with others like bioblend and the shrimp pellets.
I keep the container in the freezer and take out a small portion every few weeks to feed.

If you mean Big Al's flake I finally decided to give it a try the last time I ordered. My fish love it, unlike Big Al's Sinking Sticks which they won't touch

Yes, I was thinking the flakes and whatever else that might strike the fancy of my chubby guys and gals...I don't think I'll change the algae wafers I get, because they the Hikariand they do come in a nice size bag, I'm just trying to save a bit of money, and if the food isn't worth it then I don't want to buy it, I'll just stick with the hikari and tetraminbut I might be willing to try the flakes since some of ya'll think they are good thanks...hml

Houston,
as a very happy customer of big als, I would say definetly their food is worth it.
It is very high quality, and very good tasting as all my fish love it.
I just bought 4 half pound sacks , probably enough to last me 8-10 months.
Heres the ingredients for you exactly as it says on the bag:
"Fish Meal, Shrimp Meal, Soybean Flour, Kelp,
Plankton, Algae Meal, Yeast, Daphnia, Brine Shrimp, Carrot, various Vitamins and Minerals. Contains no artificial flavor and coloring"
"Guaranteed Analysis"
Protein: 45% min
Crude Fat 5% min
Crude Fibre 2%max
Mosture 8% max

It is excellent food, fish are bright, healthy, active and energetic. The color on my rams has brightened up 3 fold since I swapped off Wardleys Total Tropical to Big Als Staple Flake.

Big als foods are quite high quality. They sell them in large quantities for low prices and in my opinion they are very closed to or just as good as most brand names. I have nothing but good things to say about Big Als foods and fish.

Big al's is great for me.

The V.i.p program is what makes me keep going back.

As far as the food It's good food, all my fish have always loved it, however like was said be carefull of bulk online buys of unknown products.

Maybe buy small bottles to try it first.

Shipping is great here.
