The thing is there were over a hundred of them and now there are only 7 I have them in a community tank at first the parents were holding them off ut as soon as the lights go off the fry dwindle.

How fast do these fry grow? The next biggest fish that I have to the Rams is a Dwarf Gurami. I have been told that as soon as they are bigger than the beggest mouth in the tank they will be safe, but I do not know how long that will be. I was thinking of seperating them, does anyone think that this is the way to go?

It seems now that the mother has abbandoned them and the farther has taken over the role of single Dad. Its either that but as he keeps chasing her it could be that he does not want her around.
If I was to seperate should I keep the farther with them? |

Once the fish breed & the fry are free swimming, you can remove the parents (if they don't take care of the fry) & raise the fry yourself. Any other fish in your tank will eat the fry & some fry will die naturally. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Since the fry got eaten over 3 weeks ago they have since bread again and the eggs have now been hatched for 3 days they will be swimmers soon and I think that I will sepperate some of them to give them a better chance at survival. It was not my intention for them to bread so soon aftre the last batch and will be turning the temp down as I had it set a little too high (still learning). Good luck if you start to breed. ![]() |

Rams were probably the most painstaking of my dwarves to get to breed. Jason is correct: fry should remain separate from the adults once free swimming. |
