Hi all,

I recently got 1 Blue and 1 two spot Gouramis for my 45gal aquirium.

I have 8 Neon Tetras and 6 Guppys in there already in a heavily planted tanks.

Ive got the Gouramis 4 days ago and those two fish seem to always hide. They come out every now and again but most of the time they are always hiding.

Ive been reading up and the Blue Gouramis seem to get quite large in size and im worried about my Neons.

Is it normal for the Gouramis to hide like that? When I got my Neons and Guppys they were hiding for a couple of hours but after that they come right up to the glass and say hello.

With the new Gouramis as soom as anything moves around them including the Guppys or Neons they swim for cover. Should I exchage them for a more smaller school fish or give them a week or two to settle in?

They get large, but not carnivorous enough to eat neons...I don't think I've ever seen a gourami eat a tetra.

I'd give them sometime to get into the swing of things, when I introduced my dwarf gourami into his tank, he practically played dead for a week. Give them time to open up, feed some live goodies, and keep a close eye on them. Keep the water params in check, and see how it goes.

Keep us updated. GL

I'll give them time to settle in. I had mine in with Glow lites and Guppies, and they were fine. I had a mix of a
Golden Gourami (same as blue but difference is the colour), Dwarf Neon Gourami and a Indian Banded Gourami. All where shy, but they got over it. Took awhile though.

Thanks guys yeah Ill give them some time hopfully they'll get out of there "shyness" phase.

Great pictures TigerAngel! Your fish seem they are really comforable and relaxed in your tank especially eating from your hand. Great stuff!

How are your guppys holding out? Any nip tails from your other tank mates?

Is it normal for the Gouramis to eat the plants? Ive noticed this morning I had some floating leaves on the water and im like... Hrmmm...

Should I get some fine leaved plants they look like they havent touched those types in my tank... Yet.

Some times fish can be very difficult to settle in. It will take time. Do you have your tank in a quiet area in other words no unnecessary noise and vibrations? This can unsettle new fish some times. Just be patient.

That variety of Gourami isn't generally shy..I'd just give them time to open up. I know they get large, but I have kept them with Guppies..breeding guppies at that, and the Gouramis wouldn't eat any fry even. (the guppies were in the tank to breed/create food for the African Butterfly Fish). So as far as eating other fish..don't foresee a problem. However, the Gouramis you have can be agressive in general..but can also be very passive..their personalities vary. Even the mean Blue Gouramis I had though.. didn't go after the smaller fish..they only went after things closer to their size.

The only thing I see pick on the Guppies, are the other Guppies. I had a run of loosing some male Guppies lately, but I still have the original one. Last night I notice the original male chasing the others. So I think its him that is causing the sudden deaths of my others. Also I have lost 2 male Guppies with no sign of their poor little bodies. Just up and disappeared. I think it might have been my catfish (pictus/ cuckoo) or, I just read that Clown Loaches can get an appetite for them. (Ohno
