I've had four boesmanis in my 55-gallon community tank for about a year. The two fully grown males are clearly having a power struggle -- they're always going flank to flank and fanning their fins at each other. Sometimes the more dominant one will chase the other a little, too, but he's never the one who starts the trouble -- it's always the more subordinate one who challenges him Neither has ever come close to hurting the other one.

Is this constant power struggle really stressful for them? If so, I could move one of them to another tank -- but my preference would be to leave them where they are.

Opinions?

Part of the joy of Rainbows is the constant displaying they do to one another.

There will always be someone who'll want to challenge the alpha male.

They do it constantly. It's nothing to worry about it's all show, no damage done. I don't think they find it stressful at all, I swear mine look like they enjoy it, it looks fun to me anyway.

I wouldn't worry it's just Rainbows being Rainbows.

Remember that age and treachery will always triumph over youth and ability.

Fabulous -- that's exactly the answer I was hoping for!

Thanks!
