I have had my Brine Shrimp eggs in a small 2gallon for 2 1/2 days now and they still didt hatch. First I got my 2 gallon(which i think is too wide because my air pump isint curculating all the egg) filled it with water(duh) and put about 1 table spoon of table sea salt(finshed all sea salt) and I just put them in and they still havent hatched,(i dont have a heater) So what have you guys been doing???And what should i do? 10gallon: 8neons 5gallon: 1betta 1oto 2platys |

Hardly brine. Usually you put 1 T.spoon to a cup of water. Quite a difference. Furthermore, a 2 gal container is quite large. I remember doing them in a small jar or a glass. Please refer to the instructions of your egg package to know how you should proceed. Sponge |

There is no problem growing them in a jar or a glass. I don't think that a 1mm long being is quite conscious of the size of its "ocean". Concentrate on the right salt/water ratio, not the size of the container. Sponge |

You can use sea water or normal water with alot of sea salt. They usually hatch between 36 & 48 hours. http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/s8xi5heh/my_photos http://www.geocities.com/s8xi5heh/classic_blue.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/buzaqq/ http://www.deathbydyeing.org/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/corydoras/ Member of the Malta Aquarist Society - 1970. http://www.maltaaquarist.com |

Generally they like it warm. 80°F or thereabouts. Question 2. Are you using a salt mix such as that for a marine aquarium? If so, you should be fine, but you need a higher concentration of salt than standard marine. At least twice marine strength is recommended (around 70 parts per thousand). Natural seawater contains 35 grams of sea salt per litre - you're looking at around 70 grams per litre as a suitable concentration for Brine Shrimp. I'd also try putting a tiny pinch of baker's yeast in the culture. Sometimes this assists in hatching. An old trick that dates from the days when aquarists made their brine shrimp hatcheries in the tool shed ![]() |
