Mia![]() Hobbyist Posts: 86 Kudos: 79 Votes: 2 Registered: 20-Mar-2005 ![]() | A friend of mine has a 20 gallon tank with an algae problem it covers everything, the plants (fake) the rocks and all the sides. The tank gets no direct sunlight, and is not in a very bright room. She leaves the lights on for about 15-16 hours a day, and doesn't over feed her fish. Is there anything I can tell her to try? Besides just cleaning it off. Thanks |

That would probably cut the algae by alot. The other option is to add an algae eating fish but we'd need to know tank size and current fish at least. Filtration and water parameters would also help. |

He loves algae and is fun to watch. Plecos do create a considerable amount of poo, though. [link=rubbernose pleco]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/bulldog.xm I've never kept one but I've heard they're great algae eaters as well. [link=otos]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/bulldog.xm Otos are EXCELLENT algae eaters, but they are delicate and must be acclimated slowly. 5-6 is a good number for a20g. [link=siamese algae eater]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/csiamensis.xm I've never kept these either, but I've heard they're great. 3, maybe 4, would work for a 20g. However, DO NOT confuse them with [link=CAEs]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/cae.xm [link=flying fox]http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/profiles/flyingfox.xm I haven't kept these either, but 3 or 4 would be good. Any of the above fish will fit nicely into a peaceful 20g community tank, as long as it isn't overstocked. A list of the current stock will help determine the best solution. HTH |
