I recently read somewhere that if you have a stream of bubbles in your tank it should be guarded in some way (eg. with a tube) so the fish don't swim through it as it can damage their eyes.

Does anyone know anything about this?

In my tank the fish often swim in the bubbles and they seem to enjoy it! Should I do something about this?

I have never heard that before, where did you hear that? I could not image that bubbles of air could harm fish since bubbles occur all the time in a natural enviorment. Your fish would not purposely hurt themselves, so i am pretty sure there is nothing to worry about.

I have to agree with Hooktor, I can't imagine this being true...I have airstones all over my tanks, and in my 125 my corries (especially the Hasbrosus), the betta, and the Harlequin Rasboras literally lve to play in the bubbles...There have been times when I thought that they would definately hurt themselves but it hasn't happened yet, all that happens is they just keep going back for more So add the airstones, help create airbubbles...if they like it they will play if not, at least it adds more air to the tank...heidi michelle

Not surprisingly it was on a web site which sells aquarium accessories such as bubble tubes! I didn't think it was anything to worry about, I just wondered if anyone had heard anything similar.

I have a betta that sits in a bubble wand. He just sits there, totally still gettin' a massage. So, i don't think it harms Fish. Maybe just pampers them a little.

Sounds as good as "They Say" that certainly sounds like nothing but sales talk.
In nature fish love swimming in the bubbles they either go in there to hide or the larger ones go in there for a feed. Also fish swimming up rapids that is one big air bubble washing machine.

If I were a fish, I would sit in the bubbles all day.

Some people try to ruin all the fun ]:|

At one time my 29g was mainly platies and loaches, they loved to play in the bubbles. Occasionally the platies would literally line up at the top of the tank and take turns, diving in one at a time. I work nights so I was also lucky enough to see my kuhlis playing in the bubbles as well.

This pic was taken with my old, cheap camera but it's my platies and queen loaches having a good old time

My yoyo's lounge in the "bubbles" - never seen them bumping into the glass afterwards - LOL

In the wild - think of all the flowing rivers and the amount of "bubbles" they cause - you've never seen a blind fish!!

Best regards

Dave

heh...I even had a betta that loved the bubble wall...he'd run along it back and forth all day rather than doing more normal betta type activities in higher current areas which is to sulk .

Only thing I've ever heard of in relation to bubbles is gas bubble disease but from what I remember that shows up around the gills.
