I have has these 2 fish a few months and am still unable to identify them. They are an algae eater of some type. They are orange in color and both have long grey spots on their side. Identifiying them would be a great help in order to ensure their happiness.

Golden Algae Eater for sure. They are an amelanistic form of the Chinese Algae Eater, a large fish that becomes aggressive and stops eating algae as it grows.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

yah, it's probably a golden algae eater. you really shouldn't buy a fish without knowing what it is because you might end up with a golden algae eater, lol. be careful with these, they'll get bigger and decide that sucking out the eyes and scales of a fish is more fun that sucking algae off a rock.

Hi there,

Yes I've seen it in LFS around here they are just labeled as Glass Cleaners and they really are a Variant of Chinese Algae Eaters. Like the Albino Algae Eaters I have one myself. They tend to get a little Cranky With their own Species as they start to Grow Up

Hope It Helps

Miguel

Thanks for your replies. It is nice to know what they are. Although now I am concerned about them. There are 2 of them one is about 3 1/2" long the other about 2". I have not noticed any aggressive tendencies as of yet, but am worried for the future. I'll just wait and see I guess.

I did not buy them from the LFS, nor would I buy something I didn't know. Funny that I didn't apply that rule to getting freebies from my MIL. I received them from my mother-in-law. She bought an aquarium that came with them and a few tetras. She didn't want them (she didn't know what they were either) or the tetras so she gave them to me. So now I have learnt a valuable lesson.

Now what to do with them...

As long as they don´t cause any problems - keep them, you might be lucky and have gotten nice individuals.
