After my last thread http://www.fishprofiles.com/files/forums/General%20Freshwater/52887.html i decided to go for neon raindows, i brought 4 and added them to my 40g. they have all settled in well. i have 1 male (red fins) and 3 females (yellow Fins)

Fisrt thing are the rainbows ok in that ratio?? Could/should i add more? (males or Females)?

This past weekend i've noticed more that my corys alone in a 15g were not as active as they once were in my 40g. So i decided to put them back. after a long think about what could go from the 40g to 15g to make room for them. (couldn't ask you lot don't have computer at weekends)
i went for the livebears!!
luck was on my side a friend spoted a 20g tank with hood etc for £40. i got it!! Once setup with the filter gravel etc from my 15g and water from my 40g i added the livebearers.

setups now.
40g: 1 angelfish, 8 H. rasbora, 4 dwarf neon rainbows, 7 corys, 1 clown pleco, 3 ottos.

20g: 3 swordtails, 1 guppy. one fry and 1 danio.

Once setup my girlfriends parents gave me a zebra danio from their 15g, because it was chasing and upsetting the neons they have.
I want to know i can i fit in a few more (2 or 3) danios to keep him company?? And my girlfriend wants some redwig platies. could i get some platies???

I've swapped my mothers 10g for my old 15g. That has 2 dwarf gourami male and female and 6 H.rasbora. She wants some neons around 4-6 would these fit in her 15g?

she my profile for tank setups!!!

cheers shekoi.

Wow there's a lot going on in your post

40g: 1 angelfish, 8 H. rasbora, 4 dwarf neon rainbows, 7 corys, 1 clown pleco, 3 ottos.

That sounds like a very nice tank and I believe your M/F ratio of rainbowfish is fine

20g: 3 swordtails, 1 guppy. one fry and 1 danio.

Are your swordtails all one sex or a mix? It would definitely be good if you gave the danios some friends, they tend to be less nippy when kept in groups.

She wants some neons around 4-6 would these fit in her 15g?

It might be a bit overstocked adding the neons but they and the rasboras aren't heavy on the bio-load so with good filtration and water changes it shouldn't be a problem.

As Theresa said, adding more rainbows will overstock your tank, but with proper care it will be ok. I'd add another male and 1 or 2 more females. Rainbows aren't livebearers so they don't breed like rabbits, but that M/F ratio will reduce the stress of the females should they decide to breed.

I'm glad to see you went with my suggestion of neon dwarfs. Thanks for listening, and I hope you like them as much as I do

thanks for the replies.

i know i wrote a lot, i can only use a computer acouple times a week, so some times i need to write a lot instead of using more threads.

I have one male sword and 2 females. i'll go and get a couple more danios this weekend - will 2 more be ok??

Love the rainbows - male is very neon blue but the females are not as much, only really notice any blue colour when the lights are dimmed or off with room light on.
is this normal???
and one of the females has become fat over last day or so? is it eggs or eaten to much?? doesn't look like dropsy.

Not a problem at all, I understand how that is.

Two more danios would help, 5-6 total would be optimum. Just keep an eye on them to see if they're bothering any of the other fish.

As far as coloring of the rainbowfish maybe give them a few more days to settle in. Are they all active and eating well?

If it doesn't look like dropsy and she seems fine otherwise I'd say eggs or overeating. Again just keep an eye on her.

Good luck, it sounds like a really nice tank

The rainbow is eating swimming fine - not fat anymore, couldn't find eggs anywhere so still don't really know.

i've added a second male and another female now - all happy together i've now got six.

as for danios haven't got anymore yet all the danios in local stores don't look very healthy so waiting to find some nice ones>
does it matter that the new danios will be alot smaller then the one i have??

cheers shekoi.
