| Changing up my 30 gallon tall tank | |
chempler![]() Small Fry Posts: 2 Kudos: 3 Votes: 0 Registered: 09-Jul-2005 | Hi all, this is my first post. I currently have a tall 30 gallon tank (almost cube-shaped), so a smallish surface area. I have 1 boesmani rainbow, and 2 other rainbows, sold as "australian rainbows", though I don't know the true species. They are silvery with a dark purplish line down the side. These are about 3 inches each There are also 3 neon rosy barbs and a small bristlenose pleco. The fish are all doing well. I've had the rainbows about 2 years. The rainbows have great colour first thing in the morning! I'd like to change thing up a bit, so I'd appreciate some opinions on my ideas. Idea 1: return the barbs, or give them away and get a pair of kribensis or something similar. Would they get along with rainbows & a pleco? Idea 2: give away the barbs and get a New Guinea Red rainbow. I know rainbows need to live in a group, but are they happy if the group consists of other types of rainbows? I'm not concerned about interbreeding, as I don't have room for juveniles, so I would cull any that aren't eaten. I haven't had any breed (successfully) so far. I do enjoy the rosy barbs, but as I said, I would like a change. Sorry about the long post. Any other ideas would be appreciated too. |

Mine have have really colored up. I think that the red new guinia would probably be fine with your other rainbows. It would be even better off if you would give it a few other New Guianas. good luck. |

I'm beginning to think I might be better off getting 1 or 2 more boesmani rainbows instead of introducing another different species at this point - maybe my Boesmani will be a bit happier that way ![]() |
