A 8Yld tank is not new and if not moved very carefully you could easly crack the joints. Also you would have to be extremly careful in transporting it as well.

The problem with a tank that old is that the silicone seals start to warp and sort of dries out and comes apart from the glass. You may have a lot of repair work on your hands after you figure out how to get the thing moved. A private freight company will put it on a wooden slat, pick it up, put it on a truck, and deliver it to you. That could be expensive, but is probably the best way to move it. Otherwise, get a big dolly and a bunch of friends with a pickup truck.

Hoping that there must be a word for everything I mean...

I would not recommend the use of a dolly as it would put stress on the structure. I would gather up a bunch of friends and move it by hand to a pickup truck or the like. I would put either styrofoam or thick blankets to protect the bottom during transport. I would also use wood boards to prevent it from moving in the pickup box.

When it was set up at the LFS, did it have water in it? Was it on display, or just something that was sitting on thier shelves for 8 years?

I agree that you may want to reseal before cycling just because it is 8 years old. I do know people who have had tanks for a LOOOONG time and has never had a problem, although, it also depends on usage I think. (If I am even making sense. . .):%)

The other questions is: are you going to be able to afford to aquascape, heat/filter, and stock the tank too? OR are you going to be buying the tank and then have to wait a year to put anything in it? Not to mention wheather or not it comes with the stand, etc...

A bunch of friends and moving it by hand sounds like a good way to move it. Make it a party... you supply the pizza, they supply the manual labor and truck

If it was a marine tank I think it would have more effect on the silicone. I know it has been said on FP many times tanks can be resaled.
y knowledge of the glazing trade and speaking to professional tank makers it is not practical to do. I took back my 10Betta tank it had a small leak it was just thrown into a bin now worth repairing and that tank was under 6 months old.

Personally I would not even waste my time with that tank. In the long term it could cost you more than buying a brand new tank with a gurantee. When one of our local LFS closed down I dont think they even sold one used tank even at give away prices.
