Holy crap! You have that many fish in less than a 5 gal?
They might be happy now, but they will surly all die.

Nothing else should go in there!

It was probably a Loricariid of some kind, or a Chinese algae eater. Basically, the most common algae eaters in freshwater are plecos, ottos, and the Chinese algae eaters. Plecos are all suckermouthed catfish, but vary greatly in size, shape, and color. Suffice to say though, none are suitable for a tank of that size. The same goes for the Chinese algae eaters, except that they turn aggressive towards nonspecifics (different species of fish, and those that are not related to the CAE) and each other, and grow to around a foot. Ottos are the only ones of the three that will fit in such small tanks, but they can be quite delicate. They are usually not going to survive long in the hands of a beginner, take it from me!

Basically, the above fish are sold as algae eaters. Some of them will "clean" leftover foods, other will not. Really though, you don't need and shouldn't get any for your tank.

And, exactly how many of each fish do you have in that tank? If you are really overstocked, I would doubt that they are all happy. How are you measuring their happiness, anyways? My twenty-nine gallon tank is overstocked, but I perform twice-weekly water changes, and take great pains to make sure that no disaster can occur.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Those fish will surly all die. The nitrate build up alone will be enough to do them in.

That tank is suited for a 1 betta alone, maybe a couple of dwarf puffers and that is still pushing it.

Non of the fish Books spoke about are good for that tank.

Hi Ashneil

I am not going to say you are over-stocked until we talk about how many fish are in there. So, how many guppies and how many platies are in your tank? All males is good, means your guppies are all relatively small. What kind of schedule do you have for tank maintenence?

Your original question was mostly answered, your tank unfortunately does not have room for that kind of fish, later on when you upgrade the tank size you can start looking at a sucker fish

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

Unfortunately, any sucker catfish I've seen at the store was a pleco. These fish large, the most common species get well over a foot, possibly two feet. That outgrows most tanks people can afford. Sorry to say that, although a bristlenose could fit in this larger tank you're talking about. However, I wouldn't even think about adding more fish to the 5 right now.

How do you really know your fish are happy? I've never seen a happy fish in my life. Not once has a guppy said good morning to me. Not once did my betta give me a smile. Nope.... However, there is a difference between a well-cared for fish that thrives in its tank and a "happy" fish that is stuck in an overstocked tank. I would really advise you to hold off until you get the bigger tank and not tick off shannen because he's scary when he's angry.

And to be fair, Shannen you did come off a bit rough
