Happy New Year All!!

Last summer I picked up some very nice granite rocks from a nearby fast flowing river,,,nice flat ones. Now that I have bought my second I want to use these rocks. But, I'd like to bring out their natural granite color.

I need some advice on how to clean them off. I have a great bleach based solution but I need to know how to neutralize the bleach when the cleaning is done. If there is another good way to do this please let me know.

Thanks much,

Eric

Hi,
I live in the Rockies, and we have some beautiful pink
granite that I've used from time to time. Cleaning is
easy. You need a bucket of water and a stiff bristled
brush. First, chip off any weathered rock off using
a hammer and chisel. Wear eye protection as the chips
will fly everywhere and some are sharp and then scrub
the rocks.

When you speak of bleach, I assume you are talking about
a chlorox solution. It contains chlorine, of course,
and you will want to soak the rocks in a bucket of water
that has dechlorinator in it. Soak till you no longer
smell any chlorine.

Eventually, like with white sand, the rocks will loose
their color and you will have to sand blast them to
remove the weathering rind that forms on the surfaces.
In the case of algae, a strong bleach solution, scrubbing,
and then soaking in dechlorinator should work.

Frank has given excellent advice as usual no need to add any more.

No matter what type of rocks you use once in a Aquarium they will start to change colour with age. This gives it a more natural look, and is very pleasing to the eye.

Got it correct this time
