Return the goldfish to the store. They get way too large and produce WAY too much waste for a 20 gallon tank. Read the [link=Nitrogen Cycle FAQ]http://www.fishprofiles.net/faq/begin-cycling.asp" style="COLOR: #f5f906[/link].

Let me know when you're done reading it and I can clarify any problems or questions you have about cycling. This is definitely required reading for any new hobbyist, and it is crucial to have a good understanding of "The Cylcle."

The white cloudiness you are seeing is a bacterial bloom, and is a result of the massive amount of nitrogenous waste those goldfish are producing. They are producing ammonia, and billions of bacteria are reproducing to feed on it.

There are many beautiful tropical fish that will be much smaller and not nearly as messy that would be more appropriate for your tank. Many of them are much better for beginners and in the end you will get a lot more enjoyment from a healthy tank than a sick one. Dead fish just aren't attractive. On the other hand, happy and healthy fish are good for years of enjoyment.

I know it is hard getting into this hobby for the first time, there is a lot to learn and a lot of the time we all tend to buy before we research. Try not to get intimidated and ask any questions you like.

can take a long while for the tank to cycle properly sometimes but can be sped up buy the addition of comercail producs like stess zyume or you could get some "live" filter material from the LFS out o one o their existing bio filters

Yes, it's better to replace the Goldfish with other fish & all you just have to do is wait & the water will get clearer.

I have already read the cycle. Its just that the girl at my nearest petstore said to take cheap fish to produce the right bacteria. after 3 weeks if they arent dead i have to bring them back to her. also the water was just as cloudy b4 i put in the fish.

Edit: i got biomax yesterday and so did i get the fish. seem to look a little more clear since yesterday night. I really dont know wat nto do. Is it really bad that i keep them for 3 weeks?

Those goldfish produce way more waste than you need to cycle the tank and will probably die of ammonia poisoning before the tank cycles. Also, your cycle can actually take up to SIX weeks so you will probably end up keeping them longer than 3, that is if they survive that long.

I would return them and get something else....

Some good small fish for cycling:

White Cloud Mountain Minnows
Zebra Danios
Guppies

You can use a lot of hardier fish for cycling as long as you start small and monitor the numbers closely.
