hey all..i recently changed the substrate of my tank from the natural gravel colour to the black sand so that it can make the clown's colours show up even more..however, its now making my clowns go black.any reason behind this? the top of their body turned blueish black. The whole fish just turned darker. They are perfectly fine apart from their colours.

When fish are stressed their colours can go dark. But you say their behaviour indicates they are fine. Weird. Camoflage? Blending into the substrate? What cover do they have? rocks/plants/caves/driftwood? If it too open they may be trying to 'blend'

Nearly all fish will turn darker when they are placed over a dark substrate.

I'm not your neighbor, you Bakersfield trash.

They may be stressed or blending with the substrate. The most important thing is that they are still healthy & eating.

Yep, it's perfectly normal for fish.

These store clowns have dark coloration only because of the sand.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

With clowns there is a stage called blackout where they turn completely black, probably even darker than what they are in your tank today. The greyish colouration indicates aggression and the blackout stage for clowns is when they are completely at ease in the tank. This in the wild usually happens when they are in their favourite hiding spot and trying to blend into the darkness. It's a very good thing, and is rarely seen in aquariums, of course, we will never really see the true blackout.

I cannot remember where I read this, but if I find the article, I will definitely remember to link you to it.

Your clowns are doing great

Empty chairs at empty tables, the room silent, forlorn.

say if you have a red dragon flowerhorn the owners would put orange or red gravel to help bring out its color
