They get HUGE! About 4 feet long, I think, and can weigh about 22 lbs. This is a classic tankbusting megafish that shouldn't be sold to aquarists. They wear masks of silk, porcelain, brass, and silver, So as not to mislead with their own, ordinary faces. |

Toirtis![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Mega Fish Posts: 1260 Kudos: 529 Votes: 6 Registered: 24-Feb-2003 ![]() | Depends on the species, too....P. amphibius will hit only about 2', but are uncommon at best, P. annectans and P. dolloi are by far the most common, and both max out at about 3', but if you happened to somehow snag a P. a. aethiopicus (the real 'Congo lungfish'), watch out...they get to nearly 6½', 40lbs and can be pretty aggressive. We have a african lungfish caled freddy that was donated to us by maidenhead aquatics. He's currently 4 foot long and 40 years old. He's in a 200g tank and just sits around all day. In all honesty i think there really boring fish to watch. however i think the way they can live in wet mud for over a year whilst there is a drought and come back up and live is amazing. Also i'd watch out feeding him. we use tongues - as you know lungfish suck in thier pray and digest it in thier stomach. So don't try and hand feed him. just a bit of info. Plus i think he will be fine in a 200g as they really do not move unless it's feeding time. |
