I help my girlfriends parents with there tank. i got them into the hobby so feel i should help.

they have my old 15g tank 24X12X12.
they have 8 neons, 4 dwarf corys and 2 platies. The male platie is on his last legs now he is very old.

they asked me what they could add? i mention either couple more platies or guppies.
But they've seen my tank the other day and would like neon rainbows.
I said should have about 4, 1 male 3 female, as they like to shoal - might even shoal with neons.

But can they have neon rainbows in a 15g? I could have their platies if that helps!!!???????

cheers shekoi.

If they kept up on water changes, and got small rainbows, i don't see how a few praecox (dwarf neon) rainbows are out of the question Just get 'em small and feed them a lot, they're pigs!

They could get more of the dwarf rainbows, that is true. Just remind them that they will have to make extra certain that they keep up with their tank maintenance. If they start slacking, there could be trouble.

However, I think that they should add two more of the "dwarf" cories (what species are they?) first. Cories should be kept in shoals of at least six, to ensure their well-being. Have them add more cories first, and then go for the rainbows.

And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "One more Marine reporting, Sir! I've served my time in Hell."

Personally I think it's pushing it a little. They do get relatively big (mine are now the same size as the dwarf gourami)and quite full bodied as they age and they are very active so need a lot of swimming room. For me it would be more of space issue then water quality.

I kept three dwarf rainbows in a 15 gallon tank, they even had babies after eight months or so. I also kept a shoal of eight neons in there.
