Just a question, i bought a new tank and sure enough to my surprise there is a chip in the seal about a quarter the way up the glass, is there any way of getting this fixed or did i just waste 250.00 dollars??? O yeah it is a 75G tank if that matters! And taking it back to the LFS isnt a option b/c he aint claiming responsibility although he was the one who put it in the truck. Im just so frustrated

And the chip is on the back left of the tank on the outside, directly where the pieces of glass meet

Well, i would take it back, if i'm sure that it's not your fault.
Did you check it, when you bought it?.

Is it the seal that is broken? Or is the actual glass. If he won't take it back then reseal it with aquarium sealant (silicone sealant).

If you bought it from a reputable dealer they should have no problem in taking it back. But I would definitely not use it in its current condition. Good luck with it.

lol I remember when I worked at a LFS and I would load tanks into peoples' cars and chip them on their seats or bumpers (and look the other way). Those were the days...

I personally wouldn't worry too much. I'm a risk-taker though.

You got lucky, many dealers won't take the tank back after it's gone out of the store in good condition. I always checked the tank edges seals in front of the customer so they could see that it's in good condition, and that it wasn't our fault if it ended up broken.

Heh, one time (at band camp... lol) i was checking a tank for someone who just bought one, and i was explaining that if it got damaged after i checked it, we had no responsibility, and i was in the middle of a sentance when i jumped, yanked my hand back and started dripping blood from a nasty gash on my finger Guess that wasn't the best time to find a damaged tank But hey, better me than the customer or their child, god forbid.

I did, however replace a tank outright after i watched the person drop it attempting to load it into their car. I just felt bad, plus they're cheap.

ANYWAY, you probably could have used it, but you were right not to take a chance.

Thnx for the replies, well i was taking partial responsibility b/c i drove it home, me and my buddy brought it in the house, so i was taking partial for it cause it wasnt cracked when it got loaded but it was c racked when we got it out so somewhere in the transfer between LFS and my house it cracked, and it was serious no lil crack. But in hindsight i am very happy that the store owner did take partial responsibility b/c i would have been out a tank!

I'm glad the lfs took the tank back, even if you did have to add a bit of additional money, it sure beats having to rebuy the tank all together...enjoy your new tank, and don't break it heidi
