You can cross out those red-bellied pacus from the list; they grow to about three feet long and about a foot wide!

I haven't kept angels (yet - but I will, oh yes I will), but in my research of angelfish one thing that kept coming up was angelfish=predator and neon/cardinal tetras=prey. This is only what I've heard from numerous sources and have no direct experience with it myself. I believe one of the sources I heard it from had a large school of neons that were gone within a couple of days (but her angels got very big very quickly!) Best of luck!

I wish I could find them in the area. I still haven't given up home on them, and if one of the lfs's can order them, I might add them and take out something else, as they are beautiful--Heidi

Sound real good Heidi

I'd be tempted to change one of the tetra schools to Rummies, but then I'm a fan

Shame you can't find the Barbs. They are magnificent. I can get them here but unfortunatley my tank is not quite big enough for a decent sized school, they get quite big about 3-4" and are very tight schooling.....someday

OK I think I've researched enough, and think I have finally come to a decision...A few I have thrown out just do to the fact that I can't seem to find enough information to make me feel comfortable. A couple I threw out because I can't find them, and Bensaf yours was one of those! I wanted them!!!

I must admit this morning I was going with 3 species of corries yes, I like the little boogers, but Leslie has talked me out of the albinos...tried to talk me out of the spotted ones, but I won't give! So without further ado, here we go...

10 metae Corries
10 Spotted Corries
20 Cardinal Tetras (maybe 18 + my 2 neons that i've had for ages)
2 Angels, (Black with some white)
10 Black Neons
10 GloLight Tetras

OK, I won't add all of this at once, first thing to go in will be the corries. Then I'll add the Cardinals. Next the Black Neons, and Glolights. Finally the Angels

What do ya'll think? I had Lemon Tetras on the list, but Leslie convinced me to dump 1 type of Tetras and increase another school, so I did...I come up with about 115 inches at full growth.

Am I gonna be overstocked? I figure over a month-2 month to fully stock it, and I'll be using bacteria stuff... Oh heck did I mention the MTS??? I'm hoping to avoid a pleco, I like them, but well, they poooooooooops a whole heck of a lot!!!

OK folks, tell me your thoughts...Heidi

EDIT: I do plan on getting a better digital camera (ok something other than the cell phone) and I'll be taking pictures as it progresses...hml

Having kept (Pseud)epiplatys annulatus - they're WONDERFUL fish, but they don't belong in a community tank. A tank with some tiny Pencilfish and Pygmy Cories, maybe. But on the whole they deserve a species tank.

I'm with Bensaf - Denisonii barbs all the way!

Speaking of Killies, how about the Rocket Panchax, Epiplatys anualtus? This is small (about the same size as a Neon Tetra) and GORGEOUS.

Here are some links (56K modem users - some are graphics intense:

Some fish I'd definately lose off the list:
Pacu - way to big.
Tiger barbs - either get a very big group or drop them.
Buenos Aires are pretty good plant eater bear that in mind.
Puffers - Predators and brackish not for a comuunity tank.
Scat - also brackish to saltwater also get very big.

Suggestions:
A planted Rainbow tank would be a beautiful sight. Irians, Boesmanis etc.
I don't see a large school of Rummies in there, best and prettiest schooling fish there is. I'm sure an mistaken oversight
A tank built around the Discus, big school of Rummies or Cardinals and lots of Cories for the bottom.

And for a tank that size the single best thing you could do - a large school of Denisonii (Torpedo) Barbs. These fish sre just becoming popular in the hobby and they are quite simply THE most stunning freshwater fish around. I've seen groups in large planted tanks and it is a breathtaking sight. Please have at look at them, you'll thank me I promise

Make sure you do get the Golden Wonder Killi. I got one about a year ago, and now it's easily my favorite fish. A lot of the time it stays at the top and just sits there, but when he gets goin its quite funny. Only problem is, he doesn't like new fish coming into his tank, so if you get one, make sure he's near the last added. Other than that he never picks on anybody and sometimes even breaks up fish fights.

OK I've decided to start new post on this, since now I have some ideas of what I like and are available in my area. Thanks Leslie and Sheila for putting up with me, with dead fish in one hand, and trying to write with my left hand on a fish tank...

Now folks I am gonna try to group them somehow, but all of these caught my interest for some reason...And no there are no livebearers in this list so folks help me decide what I want, and I must insist on corries being in the list, other than that....I'm thinking the tank will be a 125 gallon...tank size

Blushing Angel Fish
Marble Angel Fish

Gold Pristella

Sunshine Peacocks

Red Bellied Pacus

Tiger Barbs
Green Tiger Barbs
Long Rosy Barbs
Cherry Barbs

Cardinals
Neon Tetras
Rosbora Heteromorpha
Buenos Ares Tetras
Glo Lite Tetrea
Orange Von Rio
Lemon Tetras
Black Neons

metae Corries
Palutes Cory
Spottend Cory
Gold Corries

Golden Wonder Killi

Dwarf Puffers
Figure 8 Puffers

Dwarf Blood Gourami
Dwarf Turquois
Banded Leporinus
Red Tail Blue Botias
Lin Green Scat
Red Iran Rainbows
Boesmani Rainbows
Neon Blue Discus
Orange Cichlids (looks like electric, but orange)
Pink Albino Cichlids

OK keeping in mind I want corries in the tank at least a huge school, 2 medium schools would be fine (about 20 all together I'm thinking), help me put these in some sort of order. What can go together, and what not...that would help...Tanks ahead of time Heidi

EDIT: be nice if I could read my handwriting

hey heidi -

seeing you're pretty keen on corys (and why anyone wouldn't be is beyond me - can i put a plug in for sterbai while i'm at it, i've just increased my troop to 9, and they are gorgeous to watch) i'd set up the tank around them - look at the exact water parameters they prefer and the geographic decor, then follow on. imo, nobody does it better than mother nature - keep cories with their true neighbours and you will have a blissful, happy tank full of fish that thrive in the same water and biotope. not saying it can't be done any other way, of course, just my preference. whatever you do, enjoy the process and the result!
ps - metae are also GREAT corys - i love 'em!!

Ah, it's been renamed. anisitsi is the one I'm thinking of from Argentina, the tough critter that will go almost to White Cloud temperatures. Lovely fish I agree. Odd part is though, my LFS finds is FAR easier to get the Translucent Bloodfins than the hardier Argentines ...

Oh, glad you stayed Stormy ... wouldn't want you to miss out on any more XXX Panda chatroom action

The translucent is quite beautiful, but it was not the one I was referring to. Very lovely though!

bloodfin tetra

EDIT: You are right though cali... these are pretty hardy little buggers! I just love the red on them! GORGEOUS in a school! One of my favorites!

Stormy, is that the Argentine Bloodfin (Aphyocharax rubripinnis) you're referring to, the hardy one?

There is another, somewhat less hardy (i.e., it won't go down to 50°F like the Argentine one), but it's a lovely fish ... the Translucent Bloodfin, Prionobrama filigera. My LFS gets them regularly and they're a lovely red with tranclucent silvery bits.

Here's a link (with pics - 56K modem people be warned some of the pics have big file sizes):

Angelfish (but I am biased here), a couple of varieties of the tetras (NO BUENOS AIRES! Bad fin nippers), and a couple of cory species. If it were me I would throw in a pleco of some sort too... but I am a pleco girl! LOL!

EDIT: One variety of tetra I really like but did not see on your list is the bloodfin tetra. Very lovely little fish!
