I have a 25g tank which is empty at the moment. I was thinking of putting a pair of discus or two angels in it.

Would that be ok?

Thanks!

Are you buying a breeding pair?

Id go for angels over the discus, discus can eventually get pretty huge, and as regards water quality and minimising the stress of water changes a bigger tank would be better. You could probably keep the angels ok in a 25 gal when theyre small to medium , but you might want to upgrade it for them when they get bigger in a few years.

I wouldn't mind if they do breed. But I can't tell the difference so I might end up buying two males or two females.

Try to get a pair of Angels or else get 2 & hope you'll have a pair.

Really, it depends on the tank too.
Is it a tall tank or a long tank?
Angels need a tank 18 inches or taller.
If its any less, then I would say no even to the angels.
Discus get simply massive, I think you would need a larger tank for even a breeding pair.
How about considering some smaller cichlids, like Rams, Apistos, or Keyholes?
