Do fish need lights? (the ones directly on top of the tank) I have 2 normal (IMO) lights (swivelly ones so that I can point it to my fish tank) there are no live plants in the tank
(2 guppies) (5 gal tank)

They don't need lights over the tanks, but would need some light from somewhere to keep their circadian rhythms going as normally as possible.

What you mentioned is fine.

There's no need to have lights for your tank, but the fish need to know if it's day or night.

Room light is often enough for fish, live plants are something else entirely though .

If the fishes are in a dimly lit room for too long, they can lose color. If the room has enough light, they will be allright.
